I am influenced more by male voices than I am female voices, because I have a low voice, and also because in the mainstream of music, men seem to be allowed to be a little more aggressive with their voices than women - only in general now - and I like the oomph. | | Sounds Like | I have been told that I sound like Lauro Nyro, but I listened to her and don't hear the similarity. I have also been told that I remind people of Harry Nilsson. That just blows me away. I don't hear the similarity there either, but WOW! I was born in Memphis, Tennessee. My father is a great lover of music, as is my mother. All of my sisters have musical talent, one of whom is a band teacher. My folks were very leery of my music because it isn't classical, and I wanted to perform rather than teach. Over the years, my love of performing has not necessarily diminished, but my love of writing has surpassed it. I'm 45 years old, having a little trouble with my voice now, and simply feel that a performance career is out of my grasp at this point. It is not a regret by any means. Now I am free to write whatever I want. I can write instrumentals, which don't go over well in clubs necessarily, or write for beginning piano players. Plus, I like being able to go to the grocery store or out to dinner without having complete strangers come up to me and talk to me like I should know them. "Remember me? Tex-Mex? Last Saturday?" Zheesh.
I do not claim to be a piano player. I am basically untrained (one semester plus 9 lessons). I mainly play piano because that's what was around my house growing up. I was blessed enough to have a piano of my own for quite some time. So, if you are a piano player, you will hear a lot of flaws in my playing. Oh well. Guitars hurt my fingers and you can't sing and play French horn at the same time. lol I did take bagpipe lessons a few years back, but that's another story for another day.
My main focus is melody and lyrics. Period.
I used to perform under the name "Kristine Richards." If you saw me then, you will know that the "Richards" is to honor my son, Richard. I also used to perform under the name "Becka." If you saw me perform under that name then you are old. lol I was young then.
I have a son who is studying to be a police officer. I think the world of him. He will be a great police officer. He has empathy. He is protective and is extremely observant. He is a great judge of character. He's not some gung-ho type who would get power hungry or hot-headed or anything like that. Those are the makings of a great cop. Not that I am partial or anything. He is almost fluent in Spanish, and that will help him a great deal as well. He has a great sense of humor. He is the funniest person I know. He will graduate in the spring of '08.
