Bio:
2009 kicked off with a bang for Kristy playing shows in Sydney and Melbourne whilst recording her new album "POUR ME OUT" at 301 Byron Bay and Rocking Horse Studios. ARIA nominated producer Anthony Lycenko worked closely with Kristy on developing new sounds for her music highlighting the depth of her vocal talent and songwriting whilst staying true to her roots. To be released in June 09 "POUR ME OUT" will feature an amazing range of new songs with rock punch and folk sensibilities. It is definitely going to be one for the collection of all the true music lovers out there.
In 2008 Kristy has spent most of the year writing her new album 'POUR ME OUT', and begun pre-production with Anthony Lycenko. She also continued her relentless live playing including a stint on the cabaret theatre stage.
Kristy had a huge 2007, keeping herself busy starting on new years day with an encore performance at Woodford Folk Festival, touring to Sydney for a sell out show at OUTSKIRTS at Sandringham Hotel, playing to over 7000 people at Brisbane’s Pride Festival and Girlfest on the Gold Coast and enjoying ongoing success from her latest release ‘STRANGER IN THE DIVIDE’.
Kristy began her solo career in 2001 with the release of her debut EP ‘HEY MR LION’ through Funk Folk Records, distributed nationally through MGM. After touring the EP nationally performing with artists like Pete Murray and Deb Conway, Kristy jumped on a plane and headed to the U.S. for a 2-month promo tour. She played folk festivals including Susquehanna Music and Arts Festival with some of her idols including Caroline Aiken. Other highlights of the tour included being invited to be a part of a singer/songwriter showcase at the Philadelphia Entertainment Centre, playing Atlanta’s infamous Eddies Attic and appearing on a sampler put out by Michelle Malone.
Throughout her career Kristy has been acclaimed for her passionate vocal, intimate song writing and energetic on stage performance. She has also been celebrated in her hometown of Brisbane winning the Virginia Woolf award of achievements in the arts.
“Great voice!” Emily Saliors, Indigo Girls
“To see Kristy Apps perform is like seeing someone channel the spirit of Janis Joplin” Craig Spann, Courier Mail
“Kristy Apps is a performer who infuses her music with a certain something. The music and lyrics stand alone but when you add a purely unrestrained vocal tone it makes the jaded of listeners sit up, take notice and be moved” Nikki Bignol, Q News
