"Barstow to Vegas" LIVE at Cafe Luna, Vashon Island 9.19.08
"Needles" LIVE at Vapor Gallery Opening show. 8.29.08
with Coby Jackson and Donna Stolz (of sonic lane)
Risen out of the isolated sands of the Nevada desert and the
gratuitous flash of the Strip, Kristy Cameron is a true desert rose -
equal parts beauty and salt, you might say. A childhood off the Las
Vegas city grid and some old Dolly Parton recordings were the water
and the sunshine, and dramatic tales with a colorful cast of
characters are the intricate, crystalline blossoms.
Alternating between guitar, banjo, and mandolin, Kristy fingerpicks
her way though all sorts of genres. There is the old-fashioned ballad
about Phineas Gage - ["Poor old Phinn became a mean sonfabitch"],
the alt/indie cuteness of "The Pony Song" ["I would take him to my work/
It would be my little quirk"], vibrant religious imagery ["I was
baptized in a hot tub in Henderson"], and a pure spirituality in "Most
Fortunate Day" ["I'll climb the mountain till the road unwinds and
leave all the guilt behind / with every mile that disappears, I'll
drive over the wasted years"]. Whether it's the true story of how her
parents met at a motocross race, or the doomsday account of a
desecrated town parade, these songs are pioneer America's best
daydreams and nightmares.
Thank you so much my friend-let's repeat that night of music as soon as Possible...by the way- Ward asked me to play again in july...are you down?! sleep tight, Donna
