Bio
Out to prove herself everyday, Kristy Hanson is determined to take over the scene in 2010 by using the same method that has taken her this far: hard work measured in blistered fingers and miles traveled. Powered by vocal chords of lioness strength, a polished guitar sound, and a sensibility that blends the intimate with the universal, Kristy’s music demands attention and instantly takes you in. .. Kristy has come a long way from her formative years in Miami, recording herself on a Fisher-Price tape recorder. She studied Vocal Performance at the University of Michigan where she met her future husband and bassist, Mike Chiaburu. The two of them recorded an EP there and put together a number of bands. Kristy's experiences at school cemented her desire to move out to Los Angeles and pursue a career in singing and song writing. .. Being on the road is important for any musician, and Kristy played at venues all over the United States as part of her 20-show tour in 2008. Locally, she’s played at famous venues including The Key Club, The Viper Room, and Hotel Café. Honing her skills both on the road and in the studio has paid off tremendously, as evidenced by her growing, loyal fan base and increased radio presence across the country. .. Kristy has been busy in the studio and is gearing up for the release of a new 12-song album entitled Into the Quiet, an effort that was largely funded by donations from fans. It’s sure to be an exceptional album and could be the piece of work that makes her a household name in the near future. -

Influences
In some way or another by all the musicians and teachers I've been blessed to know over the years, and by the artists I adore and have absorbed, not in order of importance necessarily but roughly in order of what might be most obvious to people: Joni Mitchell (of course), Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, Aimee Mann, Sam Phillips, Ben Folds, Jon Brion, Fiona Apple, Michael Penn, Nick Drake, Elliott Smith, Ella Fitzgerald, recently, Jesse Harris, and of course, the Beatles. There's definitely some Indigo Girls and Dave Matthews in there and maybe some Bob Dylan and Joan Baez from my teen years of discovering "acoustic music". And I'd be lying if I didn't say that my earliest influences were Tiffany, Debbie Gibson, and Jem and the Holograms. -
Sounds Like
I've been compared to most female singers you can think of, including: Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Judy Collins, Joan Baez, Natalie Merchant, Alanis Morrisette (someone said I sounded like a cross between Alanis and Tori Amos), Edie Brickell, Jewel, Allison Krauss (love that one!), Sarah McLachlan, Indigo Girls, and Maria McKee. Which I realize is basically just a laundry list of female singer-songwriters...I guess it just depends on what your frame of reference is. I'd really like to just sound like me. :)
