This rapidly emerging Melbourne based rnb/electro artist, brings reality straight to your face like no other rnb artist before him. Terence Kritical aka ‘Kritical’ combines explosive melodic tones over pulsating production with an urban edge. The basis of Kriticals main focus is subject matter, everyday reality and struggle as opposed to simply heartache and relationships. His voice and style is undeniably distinguishable and unique due to his crooning low tones and falsetto range which switches seamlessly. Kritical’s sound is that of the honest, gritty, yearning, vulnerable and beautiful.
Yet it didn’t come easy without life’s distractions.
It began after years of living miserable in the suburbs.
“Growing up in the South-East had been interesting to the say the least.” - Kritical Born in England originally and brought to Australia by his Mauritian parents,Terence initially found life growing up difficult. Being around gang culture yet going to a private school was confusing to a then young Terence, at odds with his parents and teachers for most of his teenage life, in and out of trouble. He soon found a love for music after his second last year in high school. The talent show yearly run that he reluctantly entered had seemed to spark something in him. Terence’ musical influences ranging from Chris Cornell,
Stevie Wonder, Tupac and The Platters and also from his mother’s own musical talent. Who was a Mauritian/French singer in Australia and abroad.
Kritical found himself picking up songwriting, basic performance technique and
production skills at an alarming rate. This spawned his former incantation and works ‘Protej’ the self-titled album, ‘Street Blues e.p’s vol's. 1 and 2 and local compilation ‘Streets of the dirty Southeast?’ During this time he studied rock and pop guitar for several years because of the stale rnb scene and his love for rock and heavy music. Although Kritical soon found himself drifting back again, several years later to his first love of soul music by chance, off the buzz that stuck around through his earlier songs. In that time he released the self titled ‘Kritical’ e.p that featured ‘Dying to be like us’ produced by Kristian (Israel, Selwyn, Rickie-Lee) which later appeared on the acclaimed ‘Revolutionary Blues’ album, with stand out tracks: ‘Killa instincts,’ ‘Be there 4 me ft. Chille. B,’ and ‘One in a million.’
Kritical’s single ‘Untouchable’ and the accompanying video is seeing regular
rotation on ‘Rage’ (ABC) and Channel V (U). The song itself is a slice of Electro/Pop indulgence. With falsetto-rich harmony over dance/pop keyboards, it makes for a formidable yet sexy club track. Prior to the release of ‘Untouchable’ Kritical released the single ‘Better off’ (seen below – 'Money flower'). This featured Kritical going between singing and rapping. As well as Kritical’s own solo work, he has been aligned and performed with U.S rap/rnb group’s ‘112’ and ‘The Outlawz’ from infamous ‘Deathrow Records’ fame (Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Dr.Dre).
Kritical was featured in Aussie hip-hop magazine 'Urban Hitz ' (Issue 10July/August 05).
At present Kriticals latest track ‘VIDEO GAME’ is burning up the charts in Australia and soon the U.S.A!! The track debut on L.A radio station WSRADIO as well as Kriticals ‘UNTOUCHABLE’ track to rave reviews gaining comparisons to Prince and westcoast hip-hop.
