I've been oil painting and wood block printing since age 11. I'm into theatrical design--scenery, costumes, lighting, etc. I'm also somewhat of a band geek. I play French horn and electric bass and I dabble in piano and guitar (and I used to play flute waaaaaaay back in elementary). I sing too, but mostly in my car--which is on the other side of the country right now. I must confess, I collect My Little Ponies--the old ones from the 80s and the newer ones in stores today. It's the one sickeningly-girly thing about me, haha. I love computer gadgets. I just replaced my 5-year-old iBook with a new Mac Mini and it is teh sex. I like playing video games, but I need suggestions on good ones to try. I only have games that I've played with friends... weird stuff like DDR and Katamari Damacy.
Music
My tastes are varied and change like the weather. Don't care much for rap or country, but there is the occasional exception. I guess my preferences lean more toward pop than anything else... I've developed an appreciation for 80s music (mostly for how cheesy it is) and electronica/dance. I'll listen to everything from classical to oldies to J-rock to top-40. I sort of absorb the musical preferences of the people I spend time with, so my iPod selection has been evolving in the direction of rock/metal.
Savage Garden, Darren Hayes, Dave Matthews Band, The Beatles, The Darkness, Duran Duran, The Cars, Shiny Toy Guns, Fischerspooner, Electric Light Orchestra, Everclear, AFI, Jimmy Eat World, No Doubt, Buck-Tick, Atsushi Sakurai, Rob Zombie, Aerosmith, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, The Rapture, Goldfrapp, NIN, Powerman 5000, most things '60s or '80s, electronica, remixes, stuff that sounds good blasted in my car, and random shit that cracks me up.
Movies
I like pretty much anything with Johnny Depp in it, haha... Pirates of the Caribbean, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Benny & Joon, etc. I like the old-school Star Wars movies, Indiana Jones, most James Bond movies, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, This is Spinal Tap, Love Actually, Pride & Prejudice (A&E miniseries)... well, anything with Colin Firth in it, actually. Oh, and I geeked out hardcore when I heard about the Chronicles of Narnia movie! Finally, something based on literature I've actually read... I can't get into LOTR or Harry Potter because I'm not interested in the books.
Television
I don't have TV at my apartment, but when I lived with my folks I used to enjoy The Daily Show, Conan O'Brien, Mythbusters, and VH1 shows like I Love the 80s. I'm not a fan of reality TV, and seeing how that's mostly what's on these days, I'm sure I'm not missing much. More often than not, I'd find myself watching a dog show or horse racing... So my point is, I'm out of the loop regarding popular television. In college I had a friend who subjected me to whatever anime he was into at the time, so I've seen some of Naruto, Rurouni Kenshin, Bleach, and all of Full Metal Alchemist. I recently watched all of Chobits on YouTube and thought it was frickin' adorable.
Books
I'm currently reading everything I can find about geisha/maiko life. Because I'm a dork like that. I'm also reading The Golden Compass right now because the movie is coming out soon and it looks interesting.
Heroes
My scene design professor in college will always be a hero of mine--he's the reason I decided to double major in the first place. I thought I'd learn more about art from him than from any of the profs in the art department. He really helped me get through undergrad without suffering too many mental breakdowns. I always felt like he was my safety net. I knew he'd do anything to help me out, and that gave me a lot of courage.
My A.R.T. coworkers are awesome as well. I will forever adore them for being such great guys.

About me: I graduated from Willamette University in May 2006 with a BA in theatre design and studio art. Not just one, but two nearly useless majors!! I moved to the Boston area for an internship with the American Repertory Theatre shortly after graduation--a year passed, the internship ended, and I'm still here. I guess I'm technically overhire, but I've been working as an assistant to the charge artist and I jump over to construction when I'm needed.
