About me:
Insurgent Radio airs (almost) every Saturday afternoon, from 4-7PM on the University of Alaska Anchorage's radio station, KRUA "The Edge" (at 88.1 on the FM dial). Listeners outside the Anchorage area can live stream the show from www.uaa.alaska.edu/krua. Insurgent Radio was started by Aaron Selbig in 2004, who has since left the show to concentrate on his editorship of Insurgent49 and to host KUDO 1080AM's "The Aaron Selbig Show" (airing Monday thru Friday, from 4-6PM). Much laud is due to Aaron Selbig for laying the groundwork for Anchorage's most entertaining and radical leftist radio show. Insurgent Radio is now co-hosted by Karen Landis and Dave Armstrong. Karen and Dave examine and discuss some of the most pressing political, social, and cultural current events and issues of our times. Whereas, some blatantly biased news sources make absurd and fantastic claims of impartiality, Insurgent Radio embraces and celebrates Leftist political theory and practice. It is impossible for any account of the world to be made without a pre-existing ideological conception, and Insurgent Radio empbraces this notion unappologetically. Callers can dial 907-786-6805 at any time during the show to comment and converse with the hosts and in-studio guests. Karen and Dave wish to remind prospective callers that they should never feel intimidated when calling, and that "dissent to the dissent" is always welcome. Callers will always be treated with respect, even if a caller is totally wrong. Indeed, Dave and Karen themselves often disagree on the issues at hand...and when they do, hilarity ensues! Some of the positions Karen and Dave agree upon are: Anti-violence/anti-American unilateralism and imperialism; pro-environmentalist/renewable engery; pro-Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transexual rights; anti-racism/fascism/xenophobia; pro-animal rights; pro-disabled rights; pro-separation of church and state; pro-women's rights/reproductive rights; pro-affirmative action; anti-corporate/anti-capitalist; pro-marijuana legalization; anti-militarism and military recruitment; anti-Republican; pro-veterans' rights; pro-Palestine; pro-immigrant rights; pro-socialized medicine; anti-corporal and captial punishment; and of course, anti-censorship. To be certain, these are just a few of the stances Insurgent Radio takes on Saturday afternoons. Also. on most weekends, Insurgent Radio hosts live studio guests, including local musical acts. The show has hosted such Anchorage artists as as Heath Berg, The Flying Falcons, and Syran. Non-musical guests are invited to spread the word and build support for their positive community projects and programs. And, of course, Insurgent Radio does its best to invite knowledgable and provactive people to discuss a vast range of issues, from the plight of the mentally ill to the status of renewable energy here in Alaska. Finally, the soundtrack! Insurgent Radio is THE source for progressive, political music. From Ani DiFranco to Zero Boys, Insurgent Radio hooks its audience up with some of today's and yesterday's coolest protest music. I recently applied for a passport as part of my next two quarters of Independent Learning Contracts (Spring to go to the G8 as part of a medic team in Germany and Summer to go to Mexico and conduct interviews concerning the G8’s influence on that region) these will complete my BA degree through The Evergreen State College. My application was denied. The Department of State said they wanted Complete Employment Records (including employer I.D. numbers), Complete Educational Records, Complete Residency Records, Complete Tax Records and the names, addresses, phone numbers, dates of birth, dates of death, dates of marriage of ALL my family members. I have contacted my attorney and he has sent a letter, as have I and my primary instructor for the spring contract. So far this has met with no response from the Department of State.
