Singer-songwriter-actress-Broadway performer....all these ingredients make up the essence of country-pop star K.T. Oslin. Born Kay Toinette Oslin in the small town of Crossett, AR, she soon moved to Mobile, AL, and at age five, her family settled in Houston, TX. After attending college and garnering a drama degree, K.T. ventured into California, where the folk music scene was exploding. There she met and recorded an album with Guy Clark. The album was never released and Oslin's next venture found her in New York City, where she starred in several Broadway plays and later in several television commercials before she became the hottest topic in Music City aka Nashville, TN in 1987 when after scoring a record deal with super-label RCA, she released her debut album, "80's Ladies". The title track, an anthem speaking for generations of females, was a top ten hit and the album made history putting K.T. as the highest ranking debut album by a female artist in country music at the time. Several singles followed including 'Do Ya", "I'll Always Come Back", and "Two Hearts", all reaching number one on Country Radio.
1988 saw the release of her multi-platinum disc "This Woman", and following in 1990 after a world tour, "Love In A Small Town"-a concept album about, well, what the title says. It birthed Oslin's chart dominating "Come Next Monday". After the success of "Love In A Small Town", Oslin took a personal hiatus from music, until 1993 when she released a greatest hits album aptly titled "Songs From An Aging Sex Bomb". It was Oslin's no-nonsense stance and worldly-not to mention classy-personality along with the fact that Oslin's career shot up like the grand finale at a 4th of July fireworks show at an age when most female singers, especially country female artists, were being put "out to pasture". After "Sex Bomb", Oslin shied away from music again, and in 1996 released the critically acclaimed covers album "My Roots Are Showing", following a near-fatal illness that ended with triple bypass surgery. In 2001, she again returned to release her swan song album "Live Close By, Visit Often", which spawned a number one on Billboards Beach Music Chart for the title track. In 2002, as homage to Oslin's persona, a Nashville-based cosmetics company named their main line of lip gloss and lip stick "Toinette", Oslin's middle name.
Now retired, Oslin lives in Nashville and spends her free time on hobbies including creating miniatures, painting, and creating jewelry.
