KTP are a distinctive and edgy alternative rock band from Cambridge UK, fronted by singer and drummer Katie Parker. From varied musical backgrounds and influences, Katie, guitarist Dave White and bassist Alan Lane collectively forge an alternative and powerful rocky sound, emanating strong emotive melodies and infectious rhythms. KTP are united in their ambition to explore different musical styles and create variety in their music whilst always delivering their unmistakable style and distinctive raw vocal.
Hip-hop maestros Gym Class Heroes drummer Matt McGinley says KTP "sound[s] like Janis Joplin with rock 'n' roll. Janis Joplin meets Jet or something. It feels believable," and vocalist Travis "Schleprok" McCoy says, "I want her number. You can really feel the throatiness.”
Following a Function Rooms gig supporting Dirty Thursday and Babyshambles' Big Dave, a James Large review gushed "instrumentally superior, standing out by far as the new revolution in rock – bringing back the 70s at the same time. Even if you don’t go to gigs, even if you don’t listen to the unsigned majority, even if you’re really really stubborn...listen to “The Modern Escape” and prepare to be enlightened."
Indie rockers Dirty Pretty Things accurately observe KTP represent "a return to good old-fashioned '70s riff-addled rock - the singer really goes for it."
A review of KTP's recent live performance at the Hope & Anchor, Islington by Neon Promotions in September 2007 stated the "band play a tuneful set that has quite a rock edge to it - while some songs are light and commercially-flavoured others lean more towards heavier rock tones, the overall impression being something like Cardigans/Divinyls."
In particular, the reviewer praised KTP's "uncluttered sound for the most part with bass and drums being tight and well-controlled, but a few wilder moments see tamborines bongos and some great lead guitar solos that even Slash wouldn't be ashamed of. The vocal is a treat too - husky, strong and reaching some pleasing rock tones. Subtle but explosive."
