DIVINE COMEDY RECORDS present KULFI's new album "5th Estate". A part will be 20 hand numbered pieces, an other will be 80 hand numbered pieces, both on sacred black vinyl and “very” homemade cover art.
"5th Estate" is here. It is the most powerful record the band ever made. You will find the beautiful desperation of the long out of print "2nd Setting"lp and the dark playground of the KULFI/KENJI lp.
As a classical way to make music, KULFI is more than ever inspirated by CAN, FAUST and 90's noise monsters SONIC YOUTH (amongst many other wonderful bands indeed Kulfi is digging his “own old recognizable sound”...). The guy from LAMBWOOL did the mastering and features on 2 tracks.
TRENDKILL RECORDINGS will release the cd version (1000 copies for the very first cd releasing on the band's history!!!). both issue will come with different artworks and different tracklisting...BUY BOTH OR DIE!
Formed back in 1994, KULFI played a mixture of acid-folk and very eclectic doomy + weird music... "Obsessive feedbacks, astral noises..."
KULFI was the 2nd act to be signed on DIVINE COMEDY RECORDS, at the end of 1996, just after SONAR! D.C.R is mainly oriented into Industrial Music
and the likes, but the deep and oppressive feeling of KULFI may appeal to

Cover art was drawn by NESIS for the "planned" cd on Hypermodern records, but Kenji, never gave a suite to the release the way it was promised. Just a CDR limited at 25 copies was released, with another cover, another title, and a very "cheap" booklet.

The first one is a limited LP with Kenji Siratori "speaking here" ; a real nightmare overwhelmed by saturations and overdubs.
This is not industrial stuff, but a sort of weird distorted heavy-psychedelia Kraut Rock fulll of atmospheres. 4 pieces haunted by ghosts of bands such Can, Neurosis, Swans, CA Quintet, or TFUL 282. It may reminds you millions of things, but this album represents their own sound and it's darker than hell ! Obsessive and complex textures emerging from large variety of instruments...

This limited single open with two unreleased tracks by Michael Yonkers & The Blindshakes... very raw "garage-punk" ! Two short tracks by this living legend Kulfi's contacted because the whole band is into the incredible "Microminiature Love", as everybody in the world should be !
The Kulfi's side is a brand new track energic and dreamy as the same time. Can we say a sort of Sonic Youth / High Tide mix ?
As the band usually says, "people listening to our music give us different influences each times" and that's the best compliment ever.
The cover is also a real piece of art ; so don't miss this smart item with a very symbolic number : DC 050 !
The cover art was done by ++ ++Sophia++ +, and I must say that I find this cover really amazing!!! There's an "heaviest" version of "Screw Is My Name" from Kulfi, and two "psychy-core" exclusive by Michael Yonkers and his Blindshakes... you can't imagine how we are proud relasing a record with this "LEGEND".

In 1997, the band released his 1st 5 tracks release, then was choosed as opening act for SONIC YOUTH thanks to the holy fact that Thurston Moore himself buyed the 10" throught the Belgian's mail order MUSIC EMPORIUM .
A film from the show also exists, and KULFI did too a short appearence on local TV where the band was totally out of nowhere and not really concerned by the affair!
The 10" is really weird and saturated. Mr Arthur C.C helps the band with Enossifications & production + two concerts.
In 1998 we recorded our 1st full lenght album "Second Settings".
In this LP, main line up is Bird (drums), Fab ( vocals, Harmonica, guitars), Keb (bass + keyboards), Seb (guitars and keyboards). Pat plays guimbard on "Damn Little Cake", ... he was the first bass player from the band (1994-1996).
"This Is Third End" has been recorded, mixed, back in 2000 (?), but never released... it was mastered by Nicolas Dick from KILL THE THRILL.
We took "Reseau", (the only track ever released from this, as we were unsatisfied with the full 10 track's work, and so we never finished or published that work) for "Ombres & Lumières".
The session was helped by Yann, a talented multi intrumentist playing trumpet, guitar and banjo, that unfortunately leaved Marseille and a guy called Regis (bass + synthy), briefly replacing Keb, too busy at these times to play with KULFI.
KULFI did also some other gigs From 1997 to 1999 .
In 2007, the band stopped his long "pause", and plays now with a new line up, including the recent addition of Leo cello/trumpet... & Max on saxophone/synths... Bird, Fab, Keb & Seb remains.
Also KULFI did recently several gigs in Marseille (La Meson) & Roquevaire (private party) with the new line up... and opened for THE LEGENDARY PINK DOTS, April 12th 2009 in Marseille (Poste à Galène). It was a really thrilling for US and our FRIENDS.
Now the band is working for a split on Walnust + Locust label (including a cover of THROBBING GRISTLE... certainely the fist time ever KULFI will release a cover!!!), then also for a B.O with GEORGES MELIES movies, a V/A lead by the guys of the wonderful 17 PYGMIES band!!!
WELL, FRESH NEWS? Here... we opened for JARBOE (A very bad experience) in Marseille, l'Embobineuse, June 12th 2009, and we are in touch with BETA LACTAM.RING for another album soon... the new one is by the way ready, on TRENDKILL RECORDINGS for the CD edition, on DCR for the LP edition (that comes in JULY 2009)... alllllright!!!!!
