Like mix of Kanye West and Gravediggas....wait no like Lionel Richie and Rage Against the Machine.......or how about a mix of Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff......no wait, that is the same thing........like LL Cool J, but I don't lick my lips...and I ain't buff......and my head isn't shaped funny.....it is big, but it is not shaped funny.
Take a listen and you tell me who you think I sound like.
Hailing from California, KU a.k.a. Kustoo (pronounced koo-sto), has been influenced by legendary west-coast Hip-Hop groups like Ice Cube and Tha Alkoholiks, as well as east-coast favorites like Jay Z, Run DMC and Grand Daddy I.U. KU's unique style is the result of a silky, yet passion-filled voice, paired with real-life inspired lyrics. His street side is apparent, yet it is tempered with a smoothness reminiscent of L.L. Cool J. KU brings versatility to Hip-Hop.
His versatility can be seen in his body of work. KU and his music are featured in the new Sony film “Walk Hard” starring John C. Reilly in the role of Lil Nutzzack. He also placed three songs and co-wrote a fourth with Seth Rogan for the Paramount comedy “Drill Bit Taylor” starring Owen Wilson. In addition, KU was hired to be on set to coach/consult the actors for the films “Rap Freestyle Battle.” He has placed music in television shows such as ABC’s hit “What About Brian”, Lifetime’s “State of Mind”, CW's “One Tree Hill,” and the nationally syndicated Oprah Winfrey show. He has also placed music in video games for Sony PlayStation as well as various other television shows, feature films, and video games. He is also the co-host and voice talent of wildly popular Urban Podcast Costasworld.com.
KU recently released his debut album “Before the Hype” featuring the hit singles
“Come and Go” and “KU Da King”.
In addition to KU's hip-hop roots, KU has teamed up with the band Vajra. VAJRA is a unique collaboration of guitar, trumpet, bass, drums and vocals. They have an explosive live show that is composed of original songs bursting with originality and a contagious energy. They have described as Earth, Wind, and Fire on crack to Ozzy Osbourne version of hip-hop. Either way, the collaboration between the two has caught the attention of all of Southern California, and it is just a matter of time before they are known across the rest of the nation. VAJRA featuring K.U. performs constantly around Los Angeles (House of Blues, Roxy, Key Club, Knitting Factory, Temple Bar, etc...) and has opened for old school hip hop legends De La Soul as well as Biz Markie.
Here is a clip from the Rap Battle Scene I co-wrote with Seth Rogen for the movie "DrillBit Taylor. It is in theaters now. Go check it out!
