GeneralThe six nightclubs at Pleasure Island will soon shut down, as Walt Disney World redevelops the adult-focused district at Downtown Disney. BET SoundStage Club, Mannequins Dance Palace, 8Trax and three other nightclubs that have for years catered largely to young, single adults -- rather than to Disney's bread-and-butter family market -- will close after Sept. 27. Over the next couple of years Disney will reopen the Pleasure Island area with a broader mix of restaurants and shops. Though Pleasure Island's possible demise has been the subject of rumors for awhile, the announcement surprised many in the Orlando nightclub business. Pleasure Island, now 19 years old, may have seemed an odd venture for Disney but it appeared to thrive -- so much so that some in the industry have blamed it for accelerating the decline of the nightlife district in Downtown Orlando during the 1990s. In announcing what they called "a bold new vision" for all of Downtown Disney on Friday, Disney officials framed the Pleasure Island nightclub closures as a response to their customers, who say they want more broad-based dining and retail opportunities throughout the 120-acre district. "Our bold new vision for Downtown Disney reflects the feedback we receive from our guests each and every day and will enable us to continue to offer the high-quality entertainment that is our hallmark," said Downtown Disney Vice President Kevin Lansberry.
MusicPlease let all of Disney know we will not be silenced.    Return Our Adventurers Club!'s Blurbs
About me:
The Adventurers Club opened May 1, 1989. Disney's Imagineers created a fictional legend about the island's previous owner, Merriweather Adam Pleasure, and a backstory describing each of the buildings' former uses. Many actors have graced the halls of the Adventurers Club and all made the club what it is today.

Who I'd like to meet:
Pamelia Perkins, Club President. Otis T. Wren, Club Treasurer and Ichthyologist Extraordinaire. Fletcher Hodges, Club Curator. Samantha Sterling, Club Jungle Exploress. Hathaway Browne, Club Aviator (and ladies man). Emil Bleehall, a traveling Junior Adventurer from Sandusky, Ohio (tribe 602), that has come to compete for the Balderdash Cup. Graves, the club's Butler. The French Maid, the club's Domestic Engineer. Madame Vidalia Onionski Zarkoff, the rarely-seen club gypsy. Fingers Zambezi, the spirit of the club's organ. Colonel Critchlow Suchbench, always on duty near the entrance to the Library. Babylonia, the great stone goddess. Yakoose, the yak-moose that is mounted but not quite sedated. Beezle, the disembodied genie head in the Treasure Room. Arnie and Claude, the most vocal residents of the Mask Room.

Hello everyone, I worked Pleasure Island over this year all throughout until it closed. I miss it much, as such I have dedicated my new music mix to Pleasure Island, in specific, Mannequins.

Add me as a friend for the details, I'm sharing this one for free as a dedication.

Hello everybody, According to the following article from the Orlando Sentinel, the Kungaloosh, signature drink of the club, will be back on the Island this Saturday (Nov. 8) for a one-night stand at Laffers Cantina. I don't know if this is true but I plan on showing up and would be good to see some fellow adventurers.

I worked as a P.I. Admissions until the very last night. We need this back if not the entire island. I'm so devastated.

I honestly haven't slept comfortably the last couple of nights. Too many memories, too many songs that hit the heart.

Thanks for the add. I hope that the Adventurers Club can be moved if they can't stay there. I don't want this special place to be lost. Might seem weird to others but for two hobby actors, we were engaged in the treasure room in November. I was hoping to go back for our first anniversary next year.

I have to say, I am shocked that the moderator of this site has been getting hate mail. Are we not all here for a common goal? Don't we all have that one thing that makes us a group? It saddens me to think that whoever runs this site has been getting flack from anyone. So to you, moderator, I say a big old kungaloosh!!! You're doing a fantastic job.
Thank you!!!

hey everyone i am with Skurvy on this one i demand if you want to stop the closing of this club which is worth saveing by far we all need to ban together and write powerful letters to the board and our CEO we also should plan a mass sit in and protest a very large protest with locals and cast members alike and we can not be scared of the power they have I have spoke to alot of guest's that would be sad to see this club go also it is a major hangout for all i have ment so many pepole cast members and guest great networking place and no this club is not like the rest of the clubs down there it would fit in to there vision for the future of the island but they are not looking at it from that point of view they always seem to take out such great attractions and other things that make disney what it is let's stop it we have so much land and room for devolpement that they are not useing it stop takeing out the classics and start to use the land that our father gave us for new ideas there is plenty of space for new ideas but not at the cost of the classics that is what i see wrong with the company also that the union we have at disney dose not want to stand up either it is really sad that we are a union and they do nothing for anyone maybe i am just wrong but i network alot and i hear the same dam thing everyday from guest's and cast members alike it is time that we stand as a team and change this company into what it use to be it is much more then a job or a love affair for me with the mouse it is my life and passion to see that this company is around for every genration to enjoy just like Walt wanted it to be and that means to fight and change it for the better before the crappy so called compition gets a jump on us we have to stop losing cast members to other companys because of our pay and bad management that the board and everyone in the higher ups don't want to listen or open there eyes up and see what is going on we have to help open there eyes and w

I know that lots of people from various message boards have emailed Disney about the Club and are very discouraged - and ready to give up - because of the form letter they have received in response. While emails are good, and the petitions are important, nothing makes a statement like lots of letters! We need to encourage people to write actual letters to the Disney Execs. And people need to keep in mind that we can expect this not to work right away. This decision has already been made or they wouldn't have announced it. We need to make a convincing enough argument that they will change their minds or at least let the Club live on in it's current form and with it's current cast in another location.
