Brooklyn’s finest three part rock powerhouse is here and ready to bring mainstream alternative rock back to where it belongs…grunge. With power chord heavy guitars, hard hitting manic Dave Grohl-esque drumming, and a gift for catchy vocal melodies, Kung-Fu Grip are prime and ready for the next generation of the unapologetic grunge rock revolution.
-ExplodingInSound.com
Kung-Fu Grip is a band that started out as a recording project. Anthony K (Singer/Guitarist/Drummer) had been writing and recording demos on a 4-track for years. He got his start drumming in a band called Good Grief, with Ricky Wells. They made a name for themselves playing all over NY, doing mostly all ages shows. He then joined the band The Nerve! Their most recent (and final) CD was released on Heyday Records, and produced by Bumblefoot (Guitarist of Guns N’ Roses). The Nerve! did a European tour with Bumblefoot in late 2005.
In the summer of 2005, Anthony K decided that he was going to take his demos and record an album. He began recording the material alongside band mate Ricky Wells who produced the album and joined the band. They were then joined by Matt Rocker on bass, completing the line up.
In the summer of 2007, the band played a short east coast tour. This included a couple of dates at Six Flags Great Adventure in NJ. One of which was a summer concert event with Peter Frampton. Kung-Fu Grip also played with NYC up and coming band Hymns during this tour.
On Dec 31, 2007 Kung-Fu Grip opened for Local H to a sold out crowd in Chicago IL at Subterranean. This was part of Local H’s annual New Year’s Eve celebration.
In April 2008, the band headed into the studio to record their second album. They laid down some tracks with Ben Rice at Newkirk Studios in Brooklyn NY. Ben has produced and engineered such bands as The Mooney Suzuki and Pontius Pilate Sales Pitch.
The debut album is available for sale now on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody and tons of other music download sites. It can be special ordered in stores, and it's also available on the band’s official website and myspace page.
The band's second album "Two" is available for pre-order right now, and will be released in early 2009.
"Post-grunge pop rock mixed with local Brooklyn flavor. Front man and rhythm guitarist Anthony k is no slouch at writing memorable songs. He comes from playing (drums) with various bands, bringing the best of all he learned to Kung-Fu Grip. So, avoid the fattening KFC, and pick up some enlightening KFG." -Robert Barry Francos, the Jersey Beat
Kung-Fu Grip's music is a statement to the world that grunge has not died. A new generation of no-frills heavy rock will emerge, and who better than Kung-Fu Grip to lead that. Heavy grungy guitars with memorable vocal melodies and lyrics. Song writing that is both catchy and packed with attitude. -Dan Goldin GoldinClassics.Blogspot.com
"Kung Fu-Grip is a talented team of musicians who, all share a passion for unadulterated, no-frills rock." -Marissa Kristal, Boheme Verite Magazine
