    LEGENDARY GUITARIST, *AL DI MEOLA*
IS BRINGING HIS 6-PIECE LATIN JAZZ FUSION BAND *WORLD SINFONIA*
    TO THE KURANDA AMPHITHEATRE ON
    TUESDAY 16TH MARCH 2010.

** AL DI MEOLA WORLD SINFONIA **
    TUESDAY 16TH MARCH 2010
    GATES & BAR OPEN 6PM
    PERFORMANCE 7PM-10.30PM
MEALS AVAILABLE FROM AMPHITHEATRE KITCHEN TICKETS $65 plus booking fee www.oztix.com.au
    AND KURANDA VIDEO STORE

ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT VIRTUOSOS IN THE CONTEMPORARY INSTRUMENTAL JAZZ FIELD, AL DI MEOLA'S DAZZLING TECHNIQUE ON BOTH ACOUSTIC AND ELECTRIC GUITAR IS UNMATCHED, EXTENDING TO FLUID ARPEGGIOS FLYING AT BREAKNECK SPEED AND BEAUTIFUL, SLOW, VIBRATO-LADEN MELODIES.

PROVOCATIVE AND ENCHANTING, AL DI MEOLA'S INTRIGUING UNION OF COMPLEX RHYTHMS, LYRICAL MELODIES AND SOPHISTICATED HARMONIES ENSURES AN UNFORGETTABLE AURAL SENSATION.

“Al Di Meola holds the most prestigious guitar awards from the highest rated guitar poll in the world, Guitar Player Magazine, and has garnered a 25-year reputation as one of the most prominent virtuosos in modern instrumental jazz".(Peter James Dawson)

But for now Al’s main focus remains with WORLD SINFONIA: “I’m more interested now in moving forward with the World Sinfonia, which has really developed into something beautiful. For me, it’s the most rewarding thing I’ve done in a long, long time.
You don’t have the overbearing volume with this band. Instead you have a rich harmonic kind of music with lots of improvisation; you have a music that is emotional. What I’m doing now is just completely satisfying, like a phenomenal meal and a great glass of vintage wine.”

AL DI MEOLA WORLD SINFONIA blends jazz, classical, and tango music with Middle Eastern overtones. This electrifying mix is complete with sophisticated rhythms, haunting melodies, and thrilling guitar action.

The Latin Jazz Fusion band WORLD SINFONIA features musicians from Argentina, Cuba and Israel, with Gumbi Ortiz on percussion, Fausto Beccalossi - accordion & vocals, Kevin Seddiki - guitar, Victor Miranda - double bass, and Peter Kaszas - drums. AL DI MEOLA WORLD SINFONIA will enthrall the audience at the Amphitheatre.

Guaranteed to be a unique experience, and may we be blessed with a star lit evening to enjoy the ambience of the open-air, grass terraced, Kuranda Amphitheatre. Bring along a comfy seat (fold chair), or a blanket/rug, a friend, enjoy a bite to eat from the Amphitheatre kitchen, relax, and enjoy a night to remember…

Early in 2008 the Amphitheatre's thespian contingent, "Focus", produced a fantastic Two-Night Romantic Comedy.
An original work, produced and directed by Diana Monaghan, "After Passion" certainly did not disappoint; both nights were well-attended by both locals and new-comers, and Focus made innovative use of the space available, seating the audience up on the main stage, right amongst the action

Many people were pleased to see that amongst the performers all age groups were represented, and the vigour and enthusiasm of the whippersnappers was well-tempered by the age and experience of the "Old Hands"!

About me:

Welcome to one of Australia's most beautiful venues. Nestled in the cool hills above the tropical Queensland coast this sculptured botanical site set in rainforest gardens has grass terraces that hold up to 3500 people. Just 30 minutes from Cairns and its international airport the Kuranda Amphitheatre is a multi-purpose venue suitable for theatre, cinema, opera, festivals, seminars, workshops, circus, dance and live music.

We've been host to the best in local, national and international entertainment for over 25 years. John Butler Trio, UB40, The Waifs, Xavier Rudd, Dallas Frasca, The Wailers, Slim Dusty, INXS, Silverchair, Jackson Browne, Missy Higgins, James Morrison, The Cruel Sea and many more have graced our stage. And in 2010, Al Di Meola World Sinfonia, and Lee Kernaghan. The premier outdoor venue in North Queensland also has an intimate 200 person nightclub venue -The Understage, perfect for small shows

The Kuranda Amphitheatre is community run and funded - created and operated by the people of Kuranda on a not-for-profit basis. This spirit of community combined with natural beauty makes an unforgettable experience for artists and fans alike.

"The Kuranda Amphitheatre represents more than just a place to play a gig. For our band, and I know many other artists too - It is hallowed ground. May we all have the Kuranda Amphitheatre in our lives for generation to come" ... John Butler
