Nsayi and Peter met in August 2006 at the outdoor orientation program for their college in Tacoma, WA. After their first jam session and an impromptu performance at a house party that September, Kusikia was born. Peter loved Nsayi's unconventional and impassioned guitar playing, songwriting, and singing, while Nsayi loved Peter's raw, adaptable drumming skills. Their compatible styles made for a great team. They chose the name "Kusikia" after a verb in Swahili that means "to feel" and "to hear."
Since their conception, Kusikia has played packed house parties, coffee shops, college and high school campuses, venues, art spaces, and bars, and has released a full-length independent album. In May and June of 2007, they embarked on their first self-booked tour, playing 17 shows in three weeks, covering seven western states and selling over 160 CDs. Kusikia has also collaborated with friend and bass player, Alex Dunn, and receive radio play on independent and college radio stations across the west coast, including Tacoma's KUPS (90.1 the Sound), where they recently performed an in-studio. Their song "Inconnu" was recently remixed by David Wolf and can be heard on his myspace page at www.myspace.com/davidwolfmusic
Most recently, Kusikia has been selected to participate in the Experience Music Project's Sound Off! in February 2008. For more info, check out
