About me:
"Not a word of the nearly-700-page book is wasted. Rothfuss does not pad. He's the great new fantasy writer we've been waiting for, and this is an astonishing book."
-Orson Scott Card
"THE NAME OF THE WIND marks the debut of a writer we would all do well to watch. Patrick Rothfuss has real talent, and his tale of Kvothe is deep and intricate and wondrous."
-Terry Brooks,
"A fascinating read, with plenty of well-drawn characters and unique information on the arcane."
-Anne McCaffrey
"Hail Patrick Rothfuss! A new giant is striding the land. THE NAME OF THE WIND is an astonishing novel that just happens to be the writer's first. The bestsellers' lists and the award ballots are beckoning toward Rothfuss, and readers will be clamoring for more of the riveting life story of Kvothe. Bravo, I say! Bravo!"
-Robert J. Sawyer,
Hugo Award-winning author of ROLLBACK
"Patrick Rothfuss gives us a fabulous debut, standing firmly on the main stage of the fantasy genre and needing no warm-up act. Jordan and Goodkind must be looking nervously over their shoulders!"
-Kevin J. Anderson,
New York Times bestselling coauthor of HUNTERS OF DUNE
"THE NAME OF THE WIND has everything fantasy readers like, magic and mysteries and ancient evil, but it's also humorous and terrifying and completely believable. As with all the very best books in our field, it's not the fantasy trappings (wonderful as they are) that make this novel so good, but what the author has to say about true, common things, about ambition and failure, art, love, and loss."
-Tad Williams,
New York Times bestselling author of MEMORY, SORROW AND THORN, OTHERLAND, and SHADOWMARCH
"THE NAME OF THE WIND is a rare find these days, fit for lovers of fantasy and newcomers to the genre alike. It fires the imagination and stirs the heart. In Pat Rothfuss's sure hands, the reader will experience a journey to the very heights of fantasy. I for one never wanted to come back down."
-Sean Williams,
New York Times bestselling author of THE BLOOD DEBT
"This is an exciting and intelligent fantasy debut. Rothfuss clearly knows exactly what he's doing. Once I was started reading, I didn't want to put THE NAME OF THE WIND down, and when I did I kept thinking about the world and the characters and worrying about what was going to happen to them."
-Jo Walton,
World Fantasy Award Winner of Tooth and Claw
"This is a story about stories -- myths and legends and tavern tales, and the lies we tell ourselves in the silence of the night -- and the scary truths behind those stories. It's the story of Kvothe, a man who sought the truth of a legend and, in the process, became a legend himself. Kvothe himself is as vibrant and real a hero as you could want: brave and shy, wise and ignorant, humble and arrogant, sometimes all at the same time. THE NAME OF THE WIND is a tale told with warmth and sadness and quite a bit of humor, a Harry Potter for grownups. Come and meet Kvothe -- you'll be glad you did."
-David Levine,
Hugo Award Winner.
Who I'd like to meet:
Fantasy readers. Aspiring writers. Browncoats. Geeks of all creeds and nations.
Thanks for the add! I really enjoyed your book, and I love your blog! Keep up the good work, and I look forward to reading more of your work in the years to come!
well im sure that you get alot of fans telling you how great your book is(me included) but i was just wondering as i am prone to do when i see everyone loving something. Has anyone you know be it a fan or someone that you know( flat out told you that they do not like your book. That it was a good first try but you need a little work. Now dont get me wrong your book was excellent and i have forced most of my friends to read your book and where persuasion has failed i find that a potatoe gun is highly effective along with blackmailing and dog knapping when needed(dont ask i cant give you all the details)
Thanks for add...and thanks for taking me on a wonderful journey....the first page had me and i was thinking 'what a very clever artist'. Congrats and next one pleease!
I'm already waiting for the next episode of Kvothe's story (and the story of the other characters too, of course). I'm whishing you many many good ideas in the future. Read you soon! ^ ^
you're an inspiration, but i guess too many people already told you that, so it doesn't really count anymore if i say it too. still... there's hardly any good geek-material of epic proportions coming out nowadays. you know, the stuff you can really obsess about (like buffy or doctor who or harry potter) - but you did it anyway. thank you! ^.^
Uhm... seriously, you ARE famous. No other book has attracted me like this... Really brilliant, i hope i would be such a great author. By the way, thanks for accepting!! Greetings from Germany, Sarah
Wow, I never really attempt to message authors, as I am much to busy with other things, but I must say! Your book, 'The Name of the Wind' has become quite engrossing. I ordered a copy off of Amazon, and received it today. I'm reading it bit-by-bit, I want to make it last as long as possible until the next one. *grins*
Not sure why, but First-Person Narratives have always intrigued me. I was working on my own writing, but I pretty much scrapped it. LMAO.. It's really too bad, I was really proud of it, but I wasn't really sure what to do with it. :/
And this is your first book, I read somewhere. Then you must be a literary prodigy. *grins* Not even Garth Nix's earlier works were as good as this, which is saying something, because until this book, his 'Abhorsen' Quadrilogy took up much of my time.
Keep up the good work, Comrade. You have fans here already!!
You take care, yeah? And can't wait for the second book in your series.
And just when i thought i had read all of the great stories to be read, a chance encounter in "Borders" brings me you. And now I wait, slavering for the next literary meal you are about to serve..... thank you for the add.
