Just me, and occasionally the wonderful Colin Barley (Please find him on my page). I write music purely to retain the last bit of sanity life left me with and play in Newcastle when the opportunities arise. I am discovering the joys of a Zoom multitrack, as are my neighbours:) Yes, I would love to record something properly and yes, you might find that a relief too:)
Influences
Kate Bush has been the biggest and happiest influence on my life and her music and has lead me to many wonderful friends, as well as being the soundtrack to most of my life. Lyrically and musically, she is untouchable, a true benchmark in world music which is a wonderful, if unachievable standard.
Listening to Kate has made me try to be brave with subjects and to try and be courageous vocally. I have written songs about Albert Pierrepoint, The 'Child killer' Mary Bell and children with weapons. I like to try and step into someone elses shoes for five minutes. Often I am sure I fail, but the challenge is one we face everyday and one which can help make things better. Sometimes the songs are more personal, like 'Cockerels' which is for my late Grandmother, Jennie and 'Ripples' which is for the father I haven't seen for nearly fifteen years. I know they won't hear them, but it's a strange comfort to know that other people are unwittingly listening on their behalf and I think that's often what music is all about.
.I've been playing the piano since I was four or five, but you probably can't tell as I am professionally bad, due to forgetting what I'm doing half way thr.....:))
I have been attempting to play the guitar for a year and a half, but the capo remains my greatest allie and my fingers- my worst enemy.
I try to write poetry and have an English Literature BA from Newcastle University and an MA in Creative Writing. I recently co-edited and produced (with Collin Kelley and Jason Carty) an anthology of poems inspired by and for, Kate Bush, called 'The Thrill and the Hurting' and I sometimes perform both poetry and music around Newcastle. Unfortuately, the creative writing practised in my CV hasn't helped me find work as yet, but my Tesco shopping list is lexically marvellous.... (I am also prone to sarcasm:))
I have tried to sing all my life, only recently attempting to write-many of my songs are stolen from poems I've written. I have had a slightly bizzarre life, but music has been a constant friend.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk-carol on myspace... Poem 230 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (see my blog for details): CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY
As gospellers have said, Beneath signalling skies, On land dusty to tread, A trough in a stable Was the strawy first-bed Of a divine baby - The forgiving Godhead.
A season for new hope - There then and here now; The yuletide of goodwill - There then and here now.
In respect of this chance, Beneath bright or dark skies, Faith's the star that we glance Attending Christ's churches And trying to enhance, With singing and ritual, Our God-loving stance.
Great profile. Peace and progress. Many thanks for adding me and looking forward to your comment.. Any suggestion is welcome. Hope you enjoy and dance to my Music. All the best wishes. Farid.
