Among flower fields, cattle ranches, and sandy beaches, downtown was one street where the smell of curing fiberglass surfboards hung in the air. As a youngster in Southern California, Kyle wandered along the boundaries of quickly vanishing open spaces. A fort built in a gully was taken over and inhabited by migrant farm workers, before being bulldozed for a new housing development.
His relatives recounted the early days of Hollywood, the Hawaiian gift of surfing, ranch life lost, rail roads moving west, and playing Tarzan in the eucalyptus. They played songs about good times, immigration, and war. Their instruments were passed on in the family and at gatherings they would celebrate by playing, singing, dancing, and laughing.
Kyle grew up bilingual, but dreamed of the world beyond the Californias. He learned to sing in Greek and studied at UC Santa Barbara, playing with various bands, as a singer, lyricist, and songwriter. He took a trip to New Orleans, and was blown away by the potent musicality of the Delta region.
The world felt ripe as an open breadfruit. Kyle traveled to Hawaiian, New Zealand, and Venezuela. He hitchhiked through England, Ireland, and Scotland, taking impromtu gigs and busking for coach fares.
His love of good stories made teaching an easy fit, and he incorporated music by playing songs for students at the end of the week when they were good and writing new ones when they were bad. He went to Appalachia on a writing scholarship, where he went to bluegrass jams and put more banjo, mandolin, and fiddle into his songs.
In France, after work, Kyle spent his free time playing Appalachian gospel music with North Africans and jamming with les gitans, bizoukis, and local French musicians. Eventually, he worked his way to Mexico City, and West Africa where the feelings of awe and inspiration that touched him in New Orleans came rushing back.
Today, Kyle Van Band is based in San Diego County, where Kyle seeks out the most talented musicians he can find to join him on energizing, toe-tapping, performances of his songs and covers. Styles and genre vary with ribbons of Rock, Cajun, Irish & Country throughout.
Their first album, Live in San Diego, Vol. 1 was released at Christmas, 2008 and has nearly sold out its first run. Contact the band through this site to order a copy or purchase yours at these fine independent record stores: Spin, Lou's, Gary's Record Paradise Vol. 2, Cow, and Off the Record.

"Ticklin' The Strings" by Sweet Hollywaiians
Amazing Japanese hot string band playing 1920's, 30's, 40's style hawaiian, swing, calypso, blues, italian music and originals, featuring vintage instruments.3 songs with Robert Armstrong and Tony Marcus(from Robert Crumb and His Cheap Suit Serenaders)
"The Sweet Hollywaiians have probably the best feel for this 20's music of any string band working today. They manage the rare feat of sounding relaxed even when their playing is hot, are top notch musicians with tasteful arrangements and a full, rich, warm sound.Plus, they have a nice gamut of tunes, from King Nawahi to Giovanni Vicari to Bobby Leecan. See them live, if you can, for an unforgettable experience. If you can't, buy their Cds!" ~ Terry Zwigoff

I know that many artists from North America don't have their music videos uploaded to German video websites. The most popular websites are MyVideo.de and ClipFish.de. That means your European audience does not have the chance to find them.
I understand that most of you don't speak German and are not able to upload videos because of the language barrier. If you would like me to upload your videos to the German video websites, please let me know.
Thanks
