"Easy to listen to and good production." Simon Dawson, Music Director - 102.9 Hot Tomato
"An American who has brought herself to the glory of Byron Bay. Think beach babe and acoustic guitar. Eight songs that are definitely on the chill-out tip with Campbell supplementing her laidback guitaring with harmonica and a sweet little ukelele that works a treat. Songs about love and loss but most with a sense of lowkey celebtration to them. Sheesh! Lowkey, chill-out, laidback, understated! Shelve this with your Jack Johnson, Xavier Rudds and Tiddas." Luke Robertson, Scene Magazine
“Kym Campbell has been making a name for herself playing the roots music circuit in the US, yet it is in Australia that she hit her musical stride. First coming here as a uni student she found her creative wings surfing and travelling our coast. So Alive her first full length album, a collection of mellow tunes and soothing vocals; perfect for quiet times with friends or unwinding solo…spirited and touching music and deserves respect.”
Chris Binns, Surfing Life Magazine
"We’ve added your song Free Flowing to the playlist on Coast FM, sounds great!" Mary-Lou Stephens, Assistant Music Director- 91.7 ABC Coast FM
“Kym Campbell brings an upbeat style of what she calls acoustic surfer rock. It really is a blend of folk, rock, reggae, and island music. Campbell’s music is infectious. Though I tend to shy away from what I call “little girl” voices, the quality in the lightness of Campbell’s pipes is complex and I just can’t help but feel the real joy in her music.”
Janie Franz, Skop Magazine (USA)
"Not a bad soundtrack to a day at the beach." Mitch Alexander - Rave Magazine
BIOGRAPHY
Originally from Seattle, acoustic/surf roots chanteuse, Kym Campbell sounds like she’s been recording music for most of her life. After picking up the guitar back in the states some seven years ago, it wasn’t until she moved to Australia, that Campbell produced her acclaimed, debut EP So Alive, and thankfully, there was no going back. Often described as an infusion of roots, folk, reggae and island music with an understated, organic sound, Campbell’s style draws comparisons to artists such as Jack Johnson, The Waifs and Tristan Prettyman.
Kym Campbell’s influences span an array of genres and her music reflects a lifestyle of travel, sun, ocean, surf and song. With a vocal style so distinctive and incomparable to any other artist, Campbell’s delivery appears effortless. In 2008 she was a finalist for the Top 10 Music Oz Awards for Best Singer / Songwriter and nominated as one of the ‘Judges Highly Commended Artists’ for three tracks off her debut EP, So Alive, which has also been chosen as the featured soundtrack for several surf DVD’s and surf events including Quicksilver Pro France in 2009. 2009 has also seen Kym being chosen to record her new single Preview with world renowned producer Michael Stangel (Veronicas, Shannon Noll) at Medici Studios. With numerous community radio stations around Australia embracing her independent EP and new single and voted top 30 New Artists To Radio, as well as consistently staying in the Top 10 Australian Myspace artists for the genres of both roots and surf, songstress Kym Campbell, has built herself an impressive fan base.
Her debut offering, So Alive incorporates elements of laidback guitar, harmonica and sweet ukulele riffs, all bundled in a generous eight track EP. Campbell’s gift for song writing is highlighted on tracks such as ‘Free Flowing’, ‘Rolls That Way’ and ‘Back To You’, revealing stories of love lost and gained, as well as an honest celebration of life’s unpredictable twists and turns. Described as ‘spirited and touching’ music, Campbell’s natural ability to connect with audiences sees her winning hearts all across the country.

Good afternoon friends, We have an EP launch coming up in February, but before that happens, we need to recruit a new member into our band of brothers and sisters. We’re after someone who can play some keys and maybe even sing a bit. If this description fits you or someone you know, get in touch and we’ll see if we’re a match. Many thanks, The Baby Seal Club
