GeneralMaking notes- lots of them. Taking a train to somewhere new- travel, travel, travel is my drug. Finally finding the genius in those books that were on my set text list at University that I hadn't read and I blagged my way through in seminars instead. Being toasty warm, preferably with the sun in my eyes, curled up like a cat, reading. Going to pretentious cinemas with leather seats and really big cupholders. Going to really run-down cinemas where the guy next to you is just trying to keep warm for the evening. Going to the cinema in general. Being hideously competitive at Scrabble. Making use of the London arts/ live music/ live comedy/ live everything scene. Making, drawing, and painting things, especially at HungaMunga. LSE lectures, especially the really depressing ones on climate change where even the most educated and well-informed professors resort to using "The Day After Tomorrow" as an indicator of the future for mankind. University Challenge & the inevitable how-many-questions-right-envy. Trawling through secondhand stores. Cooking, especially making big pots of soup for many people whilst wearing a 70s flower-child apron. Re-living teenage angst in its many forms and channelling it into writing awful poetry. Asking lots of questions. Reading, writing for, and handing out the fantastic short stories in LITRO. And so can you, at www.litro.co.uk
MusicThis week, I have been mostly massaging my eardrums with the sounds of the Trojan Roots Box Set, Howling Bells, and Freshly Ground. All of which I either discovered or re-discovered while in Cape Town.

About me:
I love stories. Hearing them, telling them, writing them down so they aren't forgotten. Here's one for you. My grandparents were from Norway, India, Trinidad and England respectively. My parents were from Trinidad and England, met in London, then kind of eloped and got married in New York. Somehow they ended up in Florida, where they had me. After Hurricane Andrew, and my dad's death, we ended up in the UK.

So now I'm in London. I think movement is pretty important; I guess it's in my blood, so I love to travel. In Portugal they say I look Portuguese. In Spain, Morocco, Italy, similar scenarios. In Trinidad, they said I was too white. In England, I've been called a Paki. In every Turkish or Cypriot kebab shop, I get slighty quizzical looks- and extra chips.

Basically, I'm still looking for that sunny place where I can belong. My whole family history is based on that premise, so I'm following in comfortable footsteps. I'm writing a book which is basically the story above, give or take some 500 pages. So you have just had a preview. Aren't you lucky? Unless you're a publisher. In which case I guess I'm lucky, because you just read more of my book than most.
Who I'd like to meet:
The Dude.

Yes, the fizzing glass of water is just out of shot... I like your picture, the way that it looks like you're creeping up on that tortoise in case it suddenly bolts!

I'm very much enjoying the sunshine, not long now until long sunny days and long lazy days on the Heath... Bring it on! x

And you logged in again to tell me that! Is escaping from a baboon not excitement enough?

Oh, and I saw your diamond talk - I'd avoid if I were you, you don't want Leonardo Di Caprio after you. Nobody wants that.

Hi Kyra!!! Is it possible to have a mistress from 2,500 miles away? If so, this myspace posting would be the equivalent of the bathroom sex scene in "Unfaithful." It just feels so right! Haha, well, I hope everything is going well for you and the States miss you tremendously, even the small islands of it's coast.

Aint checked on you in ages, just suddenly noticed a picture of a chick looking like Rembrandt on my friends list and was intrigued! Sadly I be having a birthday party of sorts tonight (we're going to the IMAX, woo!) but it is brazilian carnival this weekend and I'm playing Guanabara Friday and Saturday with different bands. Come!
