    La Muse's Interests
GeneralMuse: pronunciation: myooz noun: 1. greek mythology: Any of the nine daughters of Mnemosyne and Zeus, each of whom presided over a different art or science. 2. a. a guiding spirit. b. a source of inspiration. 3. a poet. verb: when combined with a preposition, can take on, upon, over, about, as in: She was musing on (upon) what her new novel would be like. He mused for several days over (about) what to paint next. word history: the Muses have inspired poetry since Chaucer invoked one in 1374 and of course Homer well before that. Muse comes from Latin musa and Greek mousa. Further origins are in the name Mnemosyne, the goddess of memory. Her name is the Greek noun “memory,” which is an extended form of the Greek and Indo-European root “to think.” The reconstructed form montya, an ancestor of Greek mousa could then mean something like “having mental power.”

   La Muse's Blurbs
About me:
La Muse is a writers' and artists’ retreat in the South of France. The focus for everyone here is on their creative project. We are run somewhat like a co-op. In exchange for opening our home to attendees, we hope that they will take our mission seriously and use the time they’ve given themselves to get work done. La Muse is informal and comfortable, but a structure exists with the purpose of vigorous work and focus on a creative project. That structure consists of our house guidelines. Essentially, the guidelines recommend about eight hours of creative work a day just as you would do for an employer. The quiet hours are: 9am – 12pm, 1pm – 5:30pm, 10:00pm – 7am. Saturdays and Sundays are a day off. Basically, our guidelines encourage respect for your own work, others’ work, our house, and our neighbors. The purpose of each guideline is to support a true retreat from life back home. Know as well that they are called “guidelines” and not “rules” for a reason. We’re all adults; we all have our own process. We will not chain you to your desk. But know that we make these recommendations because they work. After nearly seven years of doing this, talking to attendees, and using our own experience as a rule of thumb, we can guarantee that if you stick with the program you will leave here feeling very accomplished. We are as much a machine-free house as we can be so that you can clear your mental desktops to find peace and inspiration through discipline and solace. The point is to disconnect in order to connect. Among the artists who’ve stayed here are novelists, poets, screenwriters, short and flash fiction writers, playwrights, musicians, journalists, docudramatists, memoirists, composers, photographers, painters, embroiderers, publishers, biographers, agents and many more, of all ages, denominations and continents.
Who I'd like to meet:
Writers, artists and musicians who need to get away to work on a project in peace. Please check us out on our website (www.lamuseinn.com) or on our blog at: http://lamusewritersandartistsretreat.blogspot.com

Thanks for the friendship!

May your day be filled with mirth, merriment, and the most mystical of monkey mimes.

If you end up checking out my debut novel, Vacation, I'd love to hear what you think.

Happy times,
Jeremy :)

Hey,

Thanks for befriending Oxjam! I hope that you’ll want to take part in Oxjam this October and organise a music event (it doesn’t matter how small) to raise money for Oxfam. It’s really easy and fun to do. You can download a toolkit and loads of other online resources from www.oxfam/org.uk/oxjam.

PLUS…if you are in a band and you want to play at an Oxjam event you stand the chance of being shown on MTV! Visit www.mtv.uk/oxjam.

Keep in touch
