John Fogerty, Janis Ian, Joni Mitchell, Christie McVie, Anne Lennox, Sting, Willie Nelson, and many of the Jazz Greats. I enjoy observing, then translating what is, into a song. It is easy to use art as a vehicle and let it speak for itself. Sometimes, lyrics help. Sometimes they get in the way.
MacPhail School of Music in Minneapolis, where I studied guitar with
Barb Friedman and voice with Lorna Michaelson. Then there were the guys at The West Bank School of Music, who showed me "anything is possible."
Any style, any variety, anything you want to say with your guitar, you can!

Laurie Akermark is ready to play some songs she wrote.
Akermark comes from a family of Swedish musicians from the great state of Minnesota. Her father was an accomplished pianist, accordionist and organist while her mother was a great singer in her own right. The couple passed their talents on to their progeny. Laurie’s siblings were talented pianists, guitarists and music lovers. Laurie herself began composing songs at age nine and has not looked back since.
Akermark’s music is a combination of Acoustic-Folk with strong influences in Country, Jazz, Blues and Rock. She has released five albums worth of material, each one to critical acclaim and accolades. Her first three albums, Resonation Earth, Awaken and Folk That! are full-length collections of her trademark voice. She also released an EP titled The MN Helps Bridge Disaster Fund. The album was written as a benefit for the victims of the 35W Bridge collapse.
Akermark plays many shows with a live backing band though she can easily play all her songs solo. Her band has consisted of bassist Brad Stoeckel, violinist Steve Crooks, guitarist Randy Wideman, saxophonist/flutist Bill Taylor and guitarist/tambourinist Richard Atkins. Guitarists Lonnie Knight and Don Stoyke occasionally join her on stage as well. She has also played a Show called, “The Minneapolis Songwriter’s Circle”, in Evanston, Illinois with Lonnie Knight and Mr. Carl Franzen.
Laurie Akermark is currently working on her next album.
Her CDs are available at all her gigs and at www.iTunes.com/LaurieAkermark.
Ahhhh...Dear Life....How you kind me... always by my side... or with arms open ...just behind me...
Always wrapping my heart and soul... in your warm blankets... Protecting me in your embrace.... Ahhhh...Dear Life...How you always sun... the shadows on my face...
When ever I felt low... You showered me with cheer... Ahhhh...How you have always consoled ... my heart thru’ my moments of tears...and fears...
How you cleverly made me run slightly late... So I miss the hurricane going past my gate...
How you so cleverly waved me aside... so I miss swimming against the rough incoming tide…
The numerous times I wanted to turn left... But somehow you steered my soul right... Ahhhh...How cleverly you made me miss the cold, cold night...
Ahhhh… Dear Life....I am standing tall but let me kneel today...
In gratitude for all my blessings...My Heart wants to pray
I hope you have a “purfect” weekend! Peace and love. Paul X

“My Cat.”
“My cat leaps around the garden fence Pouncing on anything that moves There’s no defence Sleeps for hours and sometimes days Bathing in the summer rays Hibernating in the winter cold Prowling, howelling meowing so bold My cat is quick, sleek, reactions unique If I ever return as a bird or a mouse then I am going to leave my house When I am due to travel away my cat sulks for days Moody before and then turns his back as I return to the door Feeding him food from a tin Is considered by my feline friend a cardinal sin He sits and looks at me in disgust This is not what I want for my breakfast. “Give me lean chicken, salmon or fresh beluga Or I’ll slash the side of your chair like Freddy Kruger My claws are sharp I will reduce your coat To the texture and look of an old Nanny goat I go to sit in my favourite chair In front of the fire and guess whose there! Asleep in my bed I awake with surprise As a purring nose pokes me straight in the eyes! I now understand the word perfection Is all about my cats affection Even when he wreaks the place I live A look from those saucer green eyes makes me forget and forgive. My cat has a spiritual link, a supernatural perception Something that humans have no connection I can only watch look and admire all of that Oh…I forgot to mention. My cat is An Acrobat.”
The early morning stroll... took its toll... on my soul... today... 4 some strange reason I kind a lost my way. for moments, for minutes , maybe hours.. I was lost in the cosmic shower...
I saw a withered leaf fall and get blown away.. it kind a felt as if it's lost its way.. in the early morning chill... call it what U will... I call it a Winter kill.. The breeze wasn't kind... it left me watery eyed and almost blind... what was I looking 4 ? what was I trying 2 find... in a world of seasons there is a chain.. Some things die some remain..
I saw the leaves make the journey 2 and fro.. Where ever they went... was that where they were meant 2 go..? I don't think so..
So it is with People.. drifting in Life’s Hurricanes and Breezes... life takes us where it Pleases.. R we like leaves in a flowing river searching 4 shores...? always opening and closing doors.. Is Eternity longer than Forevermore.. I'm not that sure.. R We What We R because of Destiny and Fate...? some life’s with Blessings 2 waste some holding empty plates.. Ahhhh..it can B a long wait..
Have U noticed we never go far...? a little like the closeness of a cut and the scar.. The falling leaves all swirl back under the Mother Tree.. Asking the Mother,"IS this my Destiny?" oh how the time flies... one moment of Summer Skies the next moment the Blossom dies.. C 4 YOURSELF I TELL U NO LIES.. SIEZE THE MOMENT....BEFORE IT 2 DIES... SAY ALL YOUR HELLOS BEFORE THE GOODBYES

Just to let you know, LOUDRAY is still holding church on Thursdays.
We've been holding it down there for 10 months and as our 1 year
anniversary of this residency approaches we are stepping up the
revival. For the past 8 months we've been joined by some of the finest
musicians in town (Martin Devaney, Ric Lee, Glenn Hanson, Dave Babb,
Jake Hyer, Kurt Froelich, Meg Ashling, Zach Gusa, Eric Larson, Jen Markey, Mother Banjo, Eliza
Blue, Pete Bauer, just to name a few) but for the next 2 months, it's
just going to be the classic LOUDRAY duo of Jon Stowell and Colin
Anderson. We will be digging deep into the back catalog of songs and
bringing some new light through these old windows.
We have been doing these shows in the classic "unamplified" style as of late and look to continue that trend.
So, stop in for some fellowship and true acoustic music, and wash away the week with sweet, redeeming booze.
$2.75 select taps from 5-7pm!!! Plenty of parking!!
Come on, isn't it time to slum it at the Dub!!
