   About The LAbels
The Labels were born on a cold, boozy night in the November 2003 when Sam, Ves and Slee decided they were tired with what they were hearing on the local music scene and so decided to form a band. They slowly started to write their own songs, but something was missing, a drummer! They searched the four corners of the earth looking for somebody who could add that extra dimension to their tracks. With that in mind they asked long time friend Lizzy Kay to slap the skins for them. From that moment on the 4 friends knew they had something special. Going from strength to strength they embarked on their first gigs which went down... ahem...not as well as they had hoped. September 2004 came around and all their gear got stolen, never tobe rocovered. They decided to have a break, and so went their seperate ways. During december the same year they played a comeback show in Wakefield which went down well enough tobe asked to play a secret gig sharing the bill with The Cribs. This gave them the spark they needed and so got down to practicing again. With new songs and a new impetus they were asked to play a Battle of the Bands which they went on to win and earn themselves a place headlining at Clarence Park festival. They Started playing gigs across Leeds slowly building up a fanbass and reputation for a energetic, entertaining and enthusiastic live show. They also went on to play along side bands such as Nine Black Alps, Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks. A year after their gear was stolen, something they were all dreading finally took place, Liz left The Labels to go to uni in Lincoln. So the search was on to find a drummer who could fill the great void left by Liz. This time though they had a plan. They asked another long time friend and former guitarist with Merry-go, Jonny Booth if he'd be interested and he was. So with a full line-up again, and gigs planned, and a tour in the pipeline, they will carry on making this music we all know and love.

''It is every lads dream to grace the stage at The Cockpit, jamming along with a group of mates and watching the crowd go wild. For the many, these dreams never come to fruition but by some twist of fate tonight, Wakefield’s The Labels, managed to jump from support act to headliners and cement themselves in Cockpit folklore. When The Redwings became a no show, it was down to the merrie city five piece, to put on an act to live up to the benchmark that has been set by many a band before. It is not easy living in the shadow of live acts such as The Pigeon Detectives, Kaiser Chiefs and The Cribs, but with such energy and charisma, they managed to create one of the best atmospheres I’ve seen in this venue for a long time. Climbing on speakers and working the audience into a crowd surfing frenzy, The Labels showed off their talent once more, including a drum and bass face off as well as entertaining the marauding herds of drinkers, by inviting support act Tres Macacos onto the stage for final song ‘Go home with Des’. A few bum notes here and there and the occasional element of danger, but The Labels have yet to fail in creating the right balance of great tunes and white knuckle, jaw breaking entertainment.''
T Newton, Wakefield Express

''The Labels hail from Wakefield near Leeds, and consist of four lads and a lass who drum, strum, blow and sing. They formed just six months ago, but have a natural flare for enthralling, energetic live performances.

From the first song the loud, energetic, crazy, and some might say cocky, frontman Christian shone through and was fantastic to watch. The music from start to finish had great layers built into it - from the lead riffs from Sam on guitar to the groovy bass lines of Matt, to the upbeat drums and mastered sax playing that made me want to dance all night long. Although there was only 50-100 people max there, I got the strong sense that everyone loved it, from the roars and cheers from song to song and even a crowd surfer who danced across the room with five guys underneath, running around trying to save the poor guy from falling flat on his back!

The set flowed well, with a spontaneous drum and bass session half way through which was either pure cool randomness or a clever cover up for something going wrong elsewhere. Either way it was great fun.

You have to give this band a pat on the back for having such a lively live set with only six months behind them. The crowd response to them was immense and they deserved it. I can’t wait to see these guys and lady again, and so I leave you with this - “Life may not be the party we hoped for... but while we are here, we might as well dance!”.
Audioscribbler

''Arriving after winning a 6-2 victory at football, then marching on stage propelling the same trademark Labels front man energy can’t be as easy as it looks. Once more the Wakefield quartet bash, strum and dance their way to an ever improving set. Showcasing personal favourite, “We were good together”, available on the “Merrie City” compilation, The Labels succeed in captivating their crowd once again. Thursdays are saved, Wakefield rejoices.''
T Newton, Wakefield Express

''The Labels never fail to impress at this venue. Catchy songs and a confident front man have always been a winning formula in the music world, and this band is no exception. The lead singer of this Wakefield group seemed to take delight in addressing the crowd directly and allowing members of the audience to add a personal touch, by offering them several percussion instruments to bang throughout their set. If they continue this way they could be strong contenders to chase after the hometown crown that The Cribs currently hold.''
Tasha Pert, Sandman

''Finally the gig kicked off as, to my mind, West Yorkshire's finest, the LAbels, saved the night once again with another brilliant, energetic performance. The LAbels impress every time. Take note all you scenesters, this band will be the name on everyones lips soon.''
T Newton, Wakefield Express

''The night is drawn to a close by The Labels, who maintain the fast pace, and once again get the crowd singing, dancing and clapping along. Although they don’t bring anything particularly new or innovative, they’re good at what they do and it certainly goes down well. Their final track sees Ash Critiques get back onstage to join in with a rowdy and fun rendition of “Pick Pocket“, to which everyone sings along (if anyone didn’t know the words at the start of the song, they did by the end!). Lead singer Christian announces that tonight‘s happenings have raised £500 towards the funeral of Escobar regular and keen gig goer Jonny Greenwood, who will be missed greatly on the Leeds/Wakefield music scene.''
Rozie Abbott

"And the moment everyone has been waiting for has arrived... The Labels finally take to the stage. The local boys have brought quite a crowd, which is now standing about 2 inches in front of them, and they're ready to rock. The Labels are instant crowd pleasers, the frontman has a belter of a voice, and the crowd are loving it, chanting out every chorus like true fans should. Their indie-pop songs are very catchy, with lots of neat tempo changes, making them more interesting to listen to than your every day indie/rock band. For a young looking band they look completely at home in front of a crowd, they exude enthusiasm and confidence from every sweaty pore, and the between-song-banter is something you don't see done well by a lot of bands. (I'll excuse the very cheesy joke from their guitarist, mainly cos I laughed at it). The set reaches an explosive end with their drummer bashing the shit out of his drums till he falls off his stool and drags half his kit down with him. Go go Jonny! The Labels are triumphant in front of their home crowd, and very well done to them."
LEEDSMUSICSCENE

It’s all kicking off in Wakefield! If truth be told it has been for some time. The Cribs have helped the place grow into a hub of frenzied quality. The Snooty Fox and more noticeably Escobar have been packed out to witness awesome quality including the likes of The Arctic Monkeys. Tonight we have up and coming local bands The Pigeon Detectives from Leeds and The Labels from Wakefield supporting the ever so delightful The Kooks. The Labels up first. Paddington’s esq. style storming down the hub that is the Escobar. ‘Going round the twist’ is pure screamadillic with raucous guitars and blast out vocals. ‘Go Go Jenny’ is a take at maybe someone in the audience but hay wait until you here ‘Guy Fawkes is Innocent’ which rebels with loud guitars and vocals but etches into a sing along chorus. ‘Keep on running’ ends an impressive set.

Currently Sweden's hottest export, THOSE DANCING DAYS combine "Sweet as apple-pie pop" with a devilishly sassy Northern Soul and it's this unique combination that has the got the whole of the UK falling over itself and for good reason too!

The subtle dynamics in their songwriting of JOHN and JEHN and the balance between chaos and beauty and the mastery of heartbreaking melodies Expect beautifully skewed hymns in the key of Serge Gainsbourg.

Wakefield's THE RESEARCH are makers of fun, but also write songs that are like punches in the stomach that knock the wind out of you but afterwards you agree that you feel much better for it.

A Fire Born In Dallas (Razmataz Lorry Excitement remix)

Available now on limited edition mini 3" CD or via digital download:

Either follow the links above or search "Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire" on iTunes. The song has been played recently by Steve Lamacq on Radio 1 & Tom Robinson on BBC 6 Music.

"Produced by ¡Forward, Russia!'s Tom Woodhead, debut single A Fire Born In Dallas (released on the Pay For The Piano imprint) finds post-hardcore and prog influences welded together to create a sound that is both vulnerable and self-assured. Admittedly, the usual influences of Fugazi and At The Drive-In are worn pretty obviously, but the band are far more than mere copyists.

Ever Since The Lake Caught Fire, it would seem, have more than enough firepower in their sonic arsenal to kick some of the music world's feted young pretenders into touch.

Hessian is excited to present Semifinalists at our most intimate gig yet - City Screen Basement Bar on 6th June. The guys promise a blinding show, featuring an awesome new light show! NME described their live show as "a brilliantly bonkers confection: like vomiting up a Ferrari, a gram of coke and a missing child all at once." This one should not be missed for anything!
