    Moving one’s legs to exotic rhythms was always stylish in Europe. Tango, Samba, Rumba, and Cha cha cha found their enthusiasts in the generous ballrooms and elegant drawing rooms of the past century. Decades later Ska, Reggae and Afrobeat influenced generations of artists and disciples of alternative lifestyles. The popularity of Buena Vista Social Club and Salsa raised the interests of the mainstream with the new and unknown. During the last years the wild sounds of the Gypsy brass bands as well as filmmaker Kusturica’s Unza-Unza beats have continued their march from the Balkans via Europe to America. Thus the tuba bass makes people wildly hopping not only at underground clubs but also at established venues. .. There are no generational limits or cultural borders for the Balkan phenomenon. No one will raise his or her eyebrows at a dancefloor burner like „Yes, we are a Swedish Balkan Band, you don’t have to look twice!“ It’s the extremes of unlimited joy and unbearable sadness that moves and enthuses DJs and musicians all over the world, and inspires them to create new hybrids. Balkan beats get happily married with HipHop, Drum’n’Bass, and even Banghra sounds. The idea is not new, as already Gypsies and Jewish Klezmorim had mixed marching tunes of the glorious Osmanian army or compositions by Mozart with Swing, Mambo, and even Disco, ingeniously combined with traditional sounds. .. The openness of this music infected the DJ duo of „Schwarzmeer BBQ“ as well. The tremendous uptempo carries the devoted customers of their La Bolschevita club nights at Schlachthof Wiesbaden away. Their followers enjoy the wild dance orgies as a real alternative to fitness centres and jogging. Better leave your trainers at home and let your soles burn!
