Bio
For Perth natives, LACEY, the completion of their sophomore EP, VERSO, marks a new stage of evolution. Recorded in their home town of Perth, at both Studio Couch and Underground Studios by Matt Giovannangelo, the EP shows a band that is defining new sounds and ready for new horizons. When you listen to LACEY, one of the first things you will notice is their incredible penchant for writing sobering, incisive lyrics, phrased perfectly in the sweetest pop melodies. Their rhythms are tight and infectious and their tones, soothing. The end result is a sound that is unintentionally seductive, but defiantly addictive. This skillful song writing is a niche that sets the Perth natives apart, but is something the band would never stake claim to. Humble from the inside out – and then some – LACEY don't want you to over-analyse them, their music, or yourself for that matter. Their sound is created less by guidelines and more by a pure intent: to expand, explore, and dance, and to have a damn good time doing it. Formed in 2007, LACEY very quickly established themselves as one of the bands to watch on the Perth music scene. In 2009 they received national airplay on triple j for their first double single 'Hard To Tell/Whip', which also reached the top 30 of the triple j unearthed charts and peaked at 2 and 4 on the indie charts respectively. The boys were also semi-finalists in the Western Australian Next Big Thing competition. In January 2010, their second single and first track from ROPES, 'Distractions', received airplay on triple j's Home and Hosed and Richard Kingsmills's 2010 programs. Their next single, 'Afraid Yet?', received spot rotation on triple j and 'Song Of The Day' feature on Radar Radio. The video for the track was also Rage's indie clip of the week. After numerous sell-out shows on the local circuit, LACEY brought their show to the east coast of Australia for the first time in 2011. Met by the open ears of punters ready for a breath of fresh western breeze, LACEY left the Sydney crowds ready for more. Of the new EP, Lacey's Harry Livings says that, "Verso differs in a number of ways to Ropes. We definitely feel that our new material is more mature and has a lot more depth to it. We approached the recording process differently this time around as we developed the songs heavily in the studio. The flexible approach definitely allowed us to be more creative right up to the point of mixing. " The first single from the EP is a pop-indie gem called, 'In Circles', and it's at radio now. -
