In today’s music, there are many talented singers, musicians, and songwriters, but it is rare to find all of those talents in one performer. Lacie Thibodeaux, an exciting young artist from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, is a gifted singer-songwriter with a powerful voice and a message for this generation. With a diverse sound that jumps from alternative to acoustic to rock, Lacie takes the listener on a journey through her struggles and her triumphs with an honesty that is fresh and compelling. “I have come to realize that all I want is to be real with people, in both my music and my life.”
Not one to be restricted by a certain style of music, Lacie follows her instincts, letting her experiences and God’s grace dictate her melodies. The title track of her debut album, “More Than Alive,” is a rock-driven declaration to stop merely surviving and begin to fully live. Then she turns to a softer, acoustic mood with “Author’s Heart,” an honest portrait of her own struggle with self-worth. Of her diverse musical sound, Lacie says, “When I first started writing, I was going for a particular style, but sometimes I just have to write whatever melodies God gives me.”
Lacie began singing and playing guitar at a young age and has a close bond with members of her church, where she participates in the youth group and uses her musical gifts to lead worship there. That has been a relationship with mutual blessings; however, she wondered where her musical path was leading. But a summer of writing, performing, and seeking God confirmed what she had known all along—that she was called to music and that music is her ministry. “After I graduated from high school, I had an entire summer to devote to whatever I wanted. I began focusing on my music and realized that I don’t always know the specific direction I’m going in, just the general. And that’s the beauty of God’s plan for me.”
Lacie accepts that she won’t always have everything figured out and wants to let others know that questioning is what leads us to letting go of our own will. “Sometimes what we want is answers,” she says, “but what we need is faith.” In “Nonsensical,” a song that was born during that summer of writing, she sings, “I’m in the middle of a war between what I want and what I’m needing.” Lacie’s lyrics speak to the conflicts within all of us.
Lacie has compassion for people who feel alone and wants to relate to them through her music. Her lyrics are deeply personal and resonate with listeners who share the common challenge of remaining on the Christian walk amid the distractions and temptations of the secular world. In “Fragile,” a haunting track that depicts the distance we sometimes feel from God, she sings, “You know I’m in pieces/ You know I’ve been let down/ You know that I’m fragile/ Still I walk this road knowing I am not alone.”
While her lyrics speak to the listener’s heart, Lacie’s wide vocal range appeals to a variety of audiences. She delivers edgy rock anthems with power, letting her high range soar and dropping down into her low notes with ease, sustaining the energy from the first note to the last. She can follow that with a quiet acoustic folk track that highlights her intricate guitar riffs and her soft, soulful soprano voice—a beautiful combination that is both humble and vulnerable.
Lacie Thibodeaux is a singer, a musician, and a song writer, but above all else, she is a child of God with a mission: “My greatest conviction is to share the voice and songs that God has placed inside of me with the world. If I don’t, I’m not only being disobedient, but I’m not being true to myself as well. In the end, all I want is to reach people. I want my music to touch and to challenge every person that listens to it. This is what I live for.”
