But influences ..? Naahh ...
(By the way, We hate Armand van Helden & Damien Rice. Correction: we dislike Van Helden and Rice. We hàte Rufus Wainwright. Especially for the unspeakable things he did to Mr. Leonard Cohen's work. We love Loudon, though.)
Sounds Like
Like maybe, we've been listening too much to some of the above, like we only rehearse 2 hours/week tops (which is true, unfortunately), like three of us were adolescents in the eighties, like we have our own style regardless (or thanks to) the lack of time and lack of practice, like our guitar player is the only one under 39, like nothing else we know.
Like Lou Reed getting drunk with The Strokes, Interpol, the Jesus & Mary Chain and Department 'S' (and what a cheerful lot they were!). Look up Department 'S' and their song 'Is Vic there?'. That is - almost - what we sound like.
Mind you, the soundbits that you can listen to here are not from a studio demo, they came straight out of our rehearsal cellar, recorded on a two-track. More low-fi than this, you die.
It started with Philippe, Peter and a Roland drum machine. Philippe being a three-time Humo's Rock Rally finalist, Peter being a rock journalist, scenariowriter and rookie singer. Then Philippe dropped out. Then Tom came in, picked up the guitar and saved the day. Then Philippe came back but didn't want to play the guitar anymore. So he picked up the bass. Then the three of us got tired of the drum machine. Enter Stéphane-from-France. Or Kaiser Söze, as he is known in some circles.
We play. A lousy two (2!!) hours a week. But we love it. It's just about having fun with our own music. Not about breaking through, making a record or touring. Just playing from 8 to 10 PM every Thursday night and blowing the fuses of a bar or a club in Ghent, Antwerp or Dikkelvenne, every now and then.
And that's just the way we like it.
But if given half a chance, we WILL blow the roof of your little club.
