Ari and Mia Friedman are members of a dynamic up-and-coming folk band. Their music is all at once driving, uplifting and moving. Ari graduated from Northwestern University in 2008 where she studied cello performance with Hans Jorgen Jensen, and will graduate from New England Conservatory in 2011 with a Masters in Contemporary Improvisation. A winner of ASTA's 2009 Alternative Styles Award, she is an inventive cellist and, aside from playing in a band with her sister Mia, she performs, tours, and records with Scottish National Fiddle champion Hanneke Cassel. She is also a member of the new Boston-based girl band, Long Time Courting, as well as New England's highly acclaimed fiddle band Childsplay. She teaches at various fiddle camps during the summer and has her own private studio. Mia is a talented fiddler, singer and banjo player studying at New England Conservatory's Contemporary Improvisation program. She won first place at the New England Regional Scottish Fiddle Champion in 2006 and performs around New England with various musicians. Both girls live in Boston.
Ari and Mia perform mostly original and traditional music. Their main influences are Southern Appalachian, old-time, jazz, folk, celtic and bluegrass traditions.

Love "Hundreds of Ways!" You guys wrote it, I assume?
Is that Mia on the banjo or somebody else? Sounds fantastic either way. Are you guys going to be at any of the major festivals this summer? Us west-coasters are generally lacking in amazing chop-fiddle and chop-cello duos to jam with. If by some miracle we end up at the same fest this summer, I hope we can play some tunes!
Oh durn, I didn't get to dance with either of you tonight at the BUC. Well, still, it was good to see yez. Hope we'll get to play some music sometime again before I'm hauled away...
Hey, listen to all this great new music on your 'Space! Could there be another A & M album in the works, hmm? (You _still_ ain't off the hook for mine! *wink*) Hope yez both are doing well, hope to see yez soon.
OK, Mia -- you're already a superb fiddler, and tune composer, in about three different genres (at least). And now we add banjo player, folklorist _and_ songwriter to your resume? Great performance last night, and look forward to more. (Hi, Ari, don't worry, I still like you, too. )
