MoviesAs a continuation of the Ladyfest Leeds Benefit Film night, we intend to show a range of short films, animations and documentaries in collaboration with Birds Eye View: Emerging Female Filmmakers. BEV have been touring their amazing work since 2003, and have held viewings at festivals such as the Big Freeze and Bestival.

Thursday 12th April we'll be showcasing the work of EXP24: the most experimental, interesting, diverse, fun, shocking, and avant-garde film we can get our hands on! As well as film/video there will be live (site specific) audio/visual, music and film performances, in the unique and inspiring surroundings of Holy Trinity Church. Take a pew, BYOB (no glass please) and bring on the experimental film!

We had a benefit film night on International Women's Day this year, and this is just one of the things that happened...

   Ladyfest Leeds 's Blurbs
About me:
*Full programme now available on our website*

Ladyfest Leeds is a festival celebrating creativity, diversity and promoting gender equality, taking place from TUESDAY 10th to SUNDAY 15th APRIL 2007 for the people of Leeds and Yorkshire, as well as visitors from around the world. Ladyfest Leeds aims to break down the barriers between the art world and those of us who are creative every day – we want to celebrate the talents of all women. Check out the website at www.ladyfestleeds.co.uk

Festival events will mainly take place primarily in two city centre host venues:

* The Carriageworks (www.carriageworkstheatre.co.uk) - For dance, performance, comedy, cabaret, music, films and spoken word events as well as three days of workshops; from fun and practical for kids and adults, to more serious talks and discussions about empowerment, gender and equality

* Josephs Well - For music and gigs, and practical music workshops from Friday to Sunday.

* Holy Trinity Church - For art installations, experimental film and music from Wednesday to Sunday

* Autonomous Space - for cafe, performances, music, kidspace, film and more from Tuesday to Sunday.

Plus lots more random amazingness in several other venues - see the full programme on our website. Ladyfest aims to bring together the energy, ideas and experience of individuals, voluntary and community organisations, colleges and universities, and the statutory sector.

There have been over 100 Ladyfests around the world since 2000. Ladyfests are non-profit, feminist events organised mainly by women and are a platform for the talents of female artists and performers. The events have been focused mainly on encouraging the talent of women and girls, but are open to everyone.

In Leeds are extending the Ladyfest ethos to include people of all genders and sexualities at every level of organising and staging the events. We also intend our planners, performers and artists to represent the diverse population of Leeds in terms of age, ethnicity, ability and social class. We want Ladyfest and its related events and meetings to be an accessible, comfortable space for everyone who wants to contribute.

Ladyfest Leeds has a DIY ethos: all the organisers are volunteers and any profits made will all go to charity. The theme of the festival is empowerment and self-representation through art and music.

Who I'd like to meet:
You! Come on get your tickets now. This is the biggest Ladyfest that the UK's ever seen and you wouldn't want to miss that..

For a full list of all our events, see our website. We've got over 100 eventsin all: more than 25 bands and music artists, 25 dance and theatre performances, 20 workshops and a bunch of arts exhibitions and installations too.

Hello. Please do delete this comment if you so wish.

We're just making sure that everyone knows that our debut album 'Horses For Courses' is available to buy from our little record label's online shop:

http://www.donttellclare.co.uk/shop.htm

Its been selling faster than we expected, and we currently only have around a quarter of our stock left - so we thought we'd better you all know that if you want a copy then now would be a good time to pick one up! If you buy it from the link above then you're buying it direct from us, the label aren't taking a cut - so its a bit like Fair Trade for struggling musicians.

International mail-order is available, just follow the instructions.

Thank you very much, and sorry for making a mess of your profile. If its any kind of consolation, we don't have a MySpace bot, so I'm leaving these comments the old fashioned way. Three -and-a-half thousand of them. My life is so exciting.

Lots of love

Calling all musicians....
Beeston Festival is currently looking for exciting acts to perform on the family stage at the next festival on Saturday 13 June 2009.
Each year we try to host a mix of bands and performers who reflect the full cultural diversity of Beeston & South Leeds' residents so we'd be really pleased to hear from local acts who want to have their music heard.

Trouble vs Glue (Rome)
http://www. myspace. com/troublevsglue

The trouble and the glue are Toni and Manuela and they create their own take on Euro-dance party with drums, keyboards, and things with lots of knobs and wires. They wowed us last year supporting Partyline and have since supported the likes of An Albatross, AIDS Wolf and Japanther. They are fascinated by animals with faces and embarrasing problems.

The Jelas (Bristol)
http://www. myspace. com/thejelas

The Jelas are an excitable bunch who form experimental, angular and dissonant sounds into catchy, infectious, but ever-changing songs. Appropriate references shamelessly lifted off their Myspace would include Deerhoof, The Slits, and Huggy Bear.

Cowtown (Leeds)
http://www. myspace. com/cowtownsuperstars

Cowtown are Big Entertainment, well-fitting jumpers, and amusing asides sometimes missed by the audience. They play the funky new-wave electro fever.

Sponge Wings (Wakefield)
http://www. myspace. com/spongewingsspongewings

Sponge Wings have emerged from the charity shops of Wakefield with keyboards and drums and play songs powered by AA batteries and liquorice, along the lines of Matt and Kim and the Unicorns.
