HER STORY...
The first Ladyfest was born in Olympia, Washington in August 2000; a one-of-a-kind event dreamed up by a group of Wild Women with a Mission. The purpose was to inform, educate, and connect the women of their community in the magical context of an All-Lady festival. The forces behind that first gathering went on to become the devilish damsels of legend: Sleater-Kinney, Cat Power, Neko Case, Sarah Dougher, and Teresa Carmody.
There was something about the energy of that first Ladyfest that resonated with women around the world. Soon there were Ladyfests popping up in Amsterdam, Atlanta, Belgium, Berlin, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol, Brooklyn, Cambridge, Columbus, Chicago, Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow, Lansing, London, Los Angeles, Madrid, Melbourne, Orlando, Ottawa, Philadelphia, San Francisco, San Diego, Sevilla, Toronto, Washington DC, and more! more! more!...
Our Ladyfest Nevada County started as a small spark; imagine your average group of girls eating lunch at the Briar Patch Co-op, talking about the lack of representation and promotion available to the artistic and powerful women in our community. Someone said the word "Ladyfest"... and it snowballed from there. Like all other Ladyfests, we are organizing our event locally and independently, fueled by volunteers and chocolate, and our proceeds will be donated to non-profit organizations benefiting women and the arts.

Kudos to Sasha and Jess and all the others who made Ladyfest a kick ass event! I feel energized, empowered, creative, and informed. Great presentations, well organized, and fantastic music-and we got it all in one day!! Can't wait tell next year ladies! Love.
Those interviews were way fantastic, ladies of work ethic! They were so brilliant that I could still read them with toothpaste splattered on my glasses.
Meh, I don't know, ladies... I think Ladyfest should have more chainsaw lessons, more firefighting skills, more shotgun wielding, more chicks kicking ass. Sewing is fun and all, but I might skip it. Count me in for the music part.
OK! I am SO seriously, EXTREMELY jealous now.. I want to be there!!! I might have to seriously look into flying out for a few days.. Which airport would I fly into?
