The LADY GOT CHOPS Women Month Jazz Festival was the brain child of The Jazz Spot Cafe's owners,Lillithe Meyers and her daughter Tiecha Merritt, and bassist Kim Clarke. It had been held exclusively for 7 years at The Jazz Spot cafe, which is now closed. For information on past festivals please visit our LADY GOT CHOPS ARCHIVAL WEBSITE
BOOKINGS ARE AVAILABLE BUT GOING FAST and new venues are assisting us in the quest to present extraordinary women in the arts.
Email: k8ladybass@yahoo.com Our current calendar so far is posted at http://kimclarke.8m.com/ladyfest8.html. We are still without corporate sponsorship. Donations for the expenses of promotion , fees of musicians and host venues may be sent through Women In Jazz Inc a 501 C3 Charitable organization. http://womeninjazz-nyc.org Mission statement: The Festival was created to empower women instrumentalists. Although a marked increase in their numbers is evident in the jazz community, the assumption that work is and always will be available is a grave misconception. Audiences are not always built-into a venue. Artists are encouraged to use the opportunity to be pro-active in building their career through expanding their audience. LADY GOT CHOPS is a celebration as well as an educational form of entertainment. As such, we reach out to listeners from high school age to senior citizens. While the appeal skews strongest to women, mothers of girls, and men who support women committed to their artistic craft, no one is excluded! Historical data is often presented which features women whose names oft drift into the dusty annals of antiquity but who were nevertheless important to blossoming of Jazz as an idiom;for example :tribute to the Sweethearts of Rhythm. There have been seminars on surviving as a woman in Jazz, interviews on personal experiences ,educational background and festival history/developments etc. |
