HISTORY: Ladymoon was formed in 2001 when Ryan Brown & Kris Potts, two longtime friends and musical collaborators, met drummer Mark McKowen. That same year the trio finished their first LP, while spending countless hours practicing and playing shows throughout the Midwest. The band was on its way to becoming one of the most creative and influential groups to come out of the Midwest jam band scene. They performed at many venues throughout the region sharing their eclectic sound and crazy on stage performances. Yet as in all great tragedies the members of Ladymoon parted ways in 2003. The band members became involved in other projects (Brown & McKowen formed Austin Bridges, while Potts turned in the bass for a mandolin in Midwest Rhythm Exchange) and expanded their individual musical repertoires. However the desire to play together was too strong and they eventually reunited in 2007.
They have recently received Runner-Up in Relix Magazines “Jam-Off” and had an editorial piece in the November edition. Their range has expanded with the addition of Nick and the energy they create together has led to every venue they’ve played asking them back for a return engagement. Their song selection is enormous with original songs ranging from ska and reggae to progressive rock and jamband dance grooves. Not to mention covers that include a wide array or artists including Talking Heads, Traffic & Deep Purple as well as Phish & The Grateful Dead. They are currently recording their second album and setting up tour dates to support the album this spring and summer. I really like it here. But I hate the university chorus, I think I've only sat through the whole two hours like once. The Acoustics physics course was so hard, I had to drop it. I'm thinking of doing what you said I should do, and be a music minor with a major in t com. Or maybe something to do with writing, I'm really getting into my blog The RA on our floor is a goof though, he was stumbling down the hallway and he just hugged this kid on our floor and he was like "Dude, I love you man!"
Nice set last Thursday at Piere's! I was hoping I'd get to hear Serpentina and you started with it right off the bat! The jamtastical breakdown in the middle of that song always sticks in my head for days. haha. I really wish I could've stuck around but had to bolt to get up for work the next day. Hopefully we can rock out a show together someday. Take care, fellas.
