The counter-attack of the soul. The ennoblement of beauty. The advance of light.
LADY MORPHIA effectively began life in 1996 with the release of the five track cassette, "Tales from the Surgical Ward". Its nucleus consists of two brothers, Nick and Chris Nedzynski. Taking their name from a line in a poem by Robert Graves, the project’s debut embodied the initial realisation of ideas with which founding member and multi-instrumentalist Nick Nedzynski had toyed since 1991. The group remains a forum for the artistic expression of his personal obsessions, thoughts, beliefs and emotions. From the days of the act’s earliest demos to its present compact discs, Lady Morphia’s music has always reflected the conflict between an imperfect world and the desire to transcend temporality. A striving for the sublime is perhaps the single most important element evident in the texts and sounds produced by the duo’s current configuration. This holds true both in terms of divinity and corporeality, for the sidereal and the sensual are equally intrinsic facets of human existence. Lady Morphia proffer no ready answers to the ills of our epoch, but rather seek to reconnect the listener – if only for a brief period – with the metaphysical forces that govern life. On the one hand, the formation’s music can be regarded as an antidote to an age in which vacuousness, materialism and ugliness seem to have usurped content, idealism and beauty. On the other, it seeks not to escape the present, but to combine those worthwhile aspects of modernity with the positive and noble legacy of the past, bearing old ideals into the future under the banner of synthesis. As opposed to rejecting reality, Lady Morphia’s music represents the somatic-aesthetic incarnation of an actuality that is at once deeper and higher than any other: the spiritual reality of eternal values. To date, Lady Morphia have released two cassettes, one MCD and the critically acclaimed full-length album "Recitals to Renewal". The latter item was issued by Tesco Distribution, Germany, in 2000. Now, after some years spent producing collaborative works and contributions to various compilations, Lady Morphia return with a new long-playing CD. “It was the Yule-rite, older than man and fated to survive him; the primal rite of the solstice and of spring’s promise beyond the snows; the rite of fire and evergreen, light and music.”
"The energy of everything flows like the great rivers of the earth, naturally rolling and splashing, slipping and spiraling through the paths of least resistance toward the swelling, dreaming sea. Our life began in the waters of our mother's living womb. Grandmother Moon pulls and releases the ocean tides and the water in our bodies allowing energy and intuition to flow freely through our feelings and our spirits. Water has memory and is alive, responding to our emotions and healing old sorrows, teaching us playfully to release and renew. Water evaporates from the sea and transpires from trees to return as cleansing, life giving rain. All life needs clean water to survive. The spirit and sacredness of water is honored by all people who respect life. Swimming or floating in pools and lakes, streams and rivers our bodies and bright spirits receive the wisdom of water, honoring our emotions, remembering the love and mysteries of our source, embraced in wholeness and serenity."
