    LadySoleil's Interests
GeneralThings I like: alcohol, bats, big boots, blue nailpolish, books, british comedy, cats, Clerks, clove cigarettes, coffee, comics, concerts, cooking, being a Corporate Goth, corsets, dancing, dining out, Evan Dorkin, fishnets, Foamy The Squirrel, going on the GothCruise, flying stunt Kites, Las Vegas, Milk & Cheese, Mountain Dew, Neil Gaiman, New York City, Nightmare Before Christmas, Pie, reading, sarcasm, sewing, shakespeare, Star Trek, stealing sporks, stripey tights, thrift stores, Tolkien, vintage clothing, Wil Wheaton, writing.

Got all that?

MusicMy taste in music is incredibly eclectic. I like everything to goth to folk to acoustic to German pop music to Industrial with a lot in between.

Some of my favorites:

Glen Phillips, Toad The Wet Sprocket, Mike Doughty, Craig Cardiff, Soul Coughing, Wolfsheim, Iris, London After Midnight, Interpol, Better Than Ezra, Depeche Mode, Beborn Beton, the Cult, Bauhaus, Peter Murphy, Siouxie and the Banshees, Mesh, Mutual Admiration Society, Gin Blossoms, Orgy, Placebo, VNV Nation, Covenant, De/Vision, Peter Stuart/Dog's Eye View, Elliot Smith, Metallica, Das Ich, Voltaire, Bad Religion, Nickel Creek, Counting Crows, The Cruxshadows, Information Society, Matt Nathanson, Nine Inch Nails, Teitur, Jonathan Coulton, Bain Mattox, Our Lady of the Highway...

Yeah. I said, eclectic. My absolute favorite artist is Glen Phillips, however. I've loved Toad since I was a teenager and still love him as a solo artist. (In fact, I like his solo work a lot more than the Toad stuff). If you don't have his latest album, "Mr. Lemons", what are you waiting for?

Click here to access Glen Phillips' myspace page:

MoviesI know they exist. I rarely watch them. I have nothing against them, I just get so wrapped up in books and music that I sort of never watch them.
TelevisionI am not big on television. I have a sad addiction to American Idol and House, and I watch Who Wants to Be A Millionaire religiously because one day, I intend to be on that damn show and take them for a lot of money. Otherwise, I value books and sleeping far more than TV.
BooksNot currently reading a lot since many of my books are still packed from the move. Currently on the list is this month's Wired magazine, Lucky by Alice Sebold and I got superbored and re-read the entire Dark Tower series. Yep, 7 books. My eyeballs need a break. Still reading various trivia books, though those are not interesting, or at least not as much.
HeroesMany. I'd say Glen, but that would make me a cheezeball fangirl. I'd also say my friends and my family, because I find something absolutely amazing about everyone I love and I feel amazingly lucky to have such a wonderful group of people in my life.

About me:

The basics:

I'm 33, hail from the NYC metro area, and currently work in children's publishing. I'm on MySpace to pimp for/keep up with Glen Phillips and other favorite bands (you have been warned) and to catch up with those people that don't seem to be on LJ. It seems like everyone and their freaking mother who is in a band is on MySpace and it's wayyyy easier to just consolidate all the info. I also find the whole friendster/myspace/tribe/orkut etc, phenomenon interesting as I'm fascinated by the overlap of all my different friend communities and hell, I'm shallow and want to collect all you fabulously gorgeous people like baseball cards. (I'm honest, at least)

In my alleged spare time, I read voraciously, play mad scientist in my kitchen, sew for fun and frustration, show up at a club now and then.. I love live music of all sorts, and the only thing that beats my passion for a good show is a good road trip to get to one. Expedia.com is the closest I get to online porn. I'm happiest in turbulence, really. It's a weird world.

Little known facts about me: I own a CrockPot, I hate cauliflower, I have been drunk in 20 states, four countries, and one congressional district (and counting), I have kissed a "rock star" and I used to cowrite a zine about a cartoon penis. I'm known for insane rants and have a legendary fondness for pie.

Who I'd like to meet:
I've already been lucky enough to meet two of my musical idols already, Peter Murphy and Glen Phillips. In terms of people who are not famous, down to earth folks who love music, have a wicked sense of humor, and challenge me intellectually will do me just fine.

I got an email from Glen. He's happy we finally met. He's gonna write a themed album about privatized space travel to celebrate our new friendship. What? He already did that? Dammit. It was great meeting and hanging with you Saturday. Jennifer and I appreciate the comfy seat on the couch at the show. See ya on the 25th.

Hey stranger! Happy birthday! Hope you do something kickass to celebrate. Was just catching up on some TRB reading. Did you end of making it to Emerson? Didn't see you there, but then again, I was probably too busy taking pictures! You guys getting on TRB again? I'm leaning toward yes, but not that thrilled with the band roster yet. Liam and I will be at Cowboy Mouth on Thursday -- very glad to hear they're back in TRB circles. How are you?

You're not the only one. I haven't unpacked completely, either. Sad, isn't it?

Recover yet? If I could kick this cold, I'd be happy. I'm trying to ignore the other signs of TRB withdrawal.

Sorry for the belatedness, but thanks for finding me. And damn, you weren't lying about the diverse musical tastes! I can relate, though I don't have the goth influences. On another tangent, I'm hoping to get a little taste of Glen and Todd this trip. I kind of miss that boat growing up in the middle of nowhere. Though Glen was on my first TRB, I missed them. And one can never have enough concert buddies. Happy to say that many shows we go to now days we recognize folks thanks to their TRB affiliation.

Thank you for your righteous indignation on my behalf and the unSmithian flare of ookie, gooshie emotions.

If you want something from Chi town, speak now.

I do owe you a b-day pressie, so if I find myself near a goth shop (owned by Asyriel Abyss... It's not foot locker) I shall get you something, as per the usual tourist goth clothes buying.

And I know Chi town has a pretty rocking scene...

I hope you've gotten a chance to wear the Japanese thing in the past : )

And the skirt from Glasgow... : )
