!-groovy-!
Three singers from Burra in Shetland are Jenny Keldie (née Napier), Rhonda Simpson and Mhari Pottinger, accompanied by first class musicians Gordon Tulloch on Guitar and Ivor (Fred) Polson on Bass and Mandolin. This vocal powerhouse formed in 2006 to take part in the annual Burra event, The Thomas Fraser Memorial Festival. So well received were the lasses, they were persuaded to perform again the following year and have taken part in the Shetland Folk Festival - also to great appreciation.
Jenny (who now lives in Orkney) is well known for her amazing vocals and has performed on a few albums. She is also a very accomplished fiddle player, winning Shetland Young Musician of the Year in 1988 at the tender age of 11 (the youngest player to ever win the award). She has played in various bands over the years but is probably best known for playing and singing in the Sheila Henderson Band.
Rhonda is a fine singer also with quite a pedigree of musical family members before her. Rhonda's mother is May from the well known Shetland country duo May & Mackie and Rhonda's grandfather was the one and only Thomas Fraser. Clearly Rhonda has inherited her family's musical abilities.
Mhari also comes from a very musical family, especially her father's side with the seven musical Pottinger brothers! Mhari's voice has a sweetness of tone which compliments Jenny and Rhonda's very well. The three together are indeed a sound to behold.
Gordon Tulloch and Ivor (Fred) Polson are two very much in demand musicians in the local music scene. Amongst others, Gordon has performed with Shoormal, Erin Sandison, Bongshang and now the Gordon Tulloch Experience. Fred currently plays in Shetland's premier bluegrass band, Wrygrass, whilst they both continue to form part of the full Sheila Henderson Band. Gordon and Fred provide excellent accompaniment to the trio.
