This fan page is in no way an official resource or official myspace page for Lafayette Leake. This page is only for fans to recognize Leakes’ contributions to music.
Lafayette Leake was born in Winona, Mississippi on June 1, 1919 (some sources, I found say 1920). He was an incredibly shy man so there is very little information known about Leake other than he left us with a treasure of piano recordings. He had a sophisticated smooth n’ easy style and at the same time could lay down some serious boogie woogie. His first major step as a pianist was with the Big Three Trio with Willie Dixon in the late 1940’s. He was also a songwriter, organist, vocalist, and became a significant part of the formative years of Chicago blues and the piano greats of his time. His broad range of abilities on the piano, from classical training to playing rock and roll by ear, made him an invaluable musician for Chess Records' studio recordings throughout the 1950’s and 1960’s. Leake recorded with some of the finest musicians of his time such as Little Walter, Chuck Berry, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Otis Rush, Billy Boy Arnold and countless others. “Feel So Blue” was released in 1978 in France off the Black and Blue label and is truly an example of his fantastic piano style and rich vocals. This was, unfortunately, one of his only albums as he would shy away from the spotlight. “Feel So Blue” was released on CD in 2002 titled “Easy Blues”. His style has a beautiful subtlety yet powerful soul that brings you right down to the core of piano blues. Lafayette Leake left us in 1990 at the age of 71 in Chicago.
