La Fin du Monde was formed in the fall of 2003 in Chico, CA as creative outlet for a group of serious musicianas. Operating as a collective, the band, Mike Crew (bass), Dan Elsen (drums), Joshua Kinsey (bass), Jeremiah Root (guitar and vocals), and Adam Scarborough (guitar), began writing experimental progressive rock, orchestrated to the smallest detail, until the desired outcome was reached. The result was melodic, dynamic and experimental music that is linear in composition, in that the song is always progressing forward. Often using complex meters, tempo changes and polyrhythms, La Fin du Monde set a standard of always pushing themselves and the song structure without sacrificing the melodic core of the song, resulting in music that is both challenging and memorable. The departure of original guitarist Jeremiah Root in 2004 nearly ended the band. Not wanting to end a project with such promise led La Fin du Monde to find a new guitarist in Chris Roberts. From that point, the group decided to funtion entirely as an instrumental band, and has continued to evolve and further develop a sound that is uniquely their own. They have been influenced from varied sources such as King Crimson, The Cure, Smashing Pumpkins, Sunny Day Real Estate, early Pink Floyd, Yes and Tortoise. With one EP and a full length album (Life as it Should Be, 2007) to date, La Fin du Monde have begun touring and continue to keep moving forward.
