La Gorda was an all-girl indie punk band from the Washington DC area. Initially formed in 2001 by Dawn Perlas (guitar/vox) and Marcia Boyett (bassist/vox), our music featured a schizophrenic blend of dissonant yet melodic basslines, contrasting vocal harmonization and lyrical topics ranging from witch burning to internet dating. We played primarily in the DC Metro region, with a few shows in North Carolina and Connecticut.
We have been on hiatus since 2006. Thanks to the friends and family who supported us, the bands who played with us, and the six drummers and four guitarists who passed through our band during our five years of activity, particularly to our final lineup, featuring Amber Turrill (guitar/vox) and Kaeri Johnson (drums).
We are leaving this profile up for posterity, and in hopes that people who stumble across it enjoy our music at half as much as we enjoyed writing it.
