Influences
My basic philsophy for my approach to music has never changed. Producers who are forward thinking in their production of music inspire me. Those rare types dont just create music that is another form of something else, they create entirely new genres- or sounds that people have never heard before. I truly beleive there are 2 types of musicians out there- those who play other peoples music, and those who compose music for others. I want to be known as a composer, as somebody who produces his own material.
I have been dedicated to learning and composing music almost my entire life. Everyday I learn something knew, it inspires me to learn more. My Father taught me how to play the Piano, he is essentially the cornerstone of my music life. For alot of Musicians, it is generational and quite literally in your DNA. I couldnt have escaped it even if I wanted to! Throughout the years, I have met literally hundreds of producers, aritists and DJ's of varying degrees of caliber. Each one has their own story.
I tend to draw my inspiration from DJ & Producers who define cutting edge. Those who arent afraid to take risks, and push things in a new direction. Or creating a new sound altogether. DJ's and Producers who are really focused on the Dancefloor stand out because of a natural ability to read the crowd and set tends. In recent times I try and stay local in terms of inspiration, by local I mean Canadian DJ's and Producers like Deadmau, Hatiras and Jelo.
Sounds Like
For the past 11 years, the traditional booking for me has been a DJ Set. In recent times however, I have revamped my set approach to incorporate my own tracks. Once an artist does that, a whole world is opened up as to HOW you want to approach playing those tracks live. With the advent of Digital Vinyl systems, and programs like Ableton- the possibilities are endless. I want to stress first and foremost that my skills as a DJ started with the bed rock foundation of learning on 2 Technics 1200 mk2s and a 4 channel mixer. The reason why i am stressing this is because the definition of what a 'DJ" is as of late- has taken quite a beating and has been altered.
My newest live set will incorporate traditional turntables running Serato Scratch Live in conjunction with Ableton Liveto allow for me to perform certain elements live including keyboards, to resample and remix on the fly and truth be told- just living everything to the next level.
Since 1999 Toronto based DJ & Producer Christopher Lawrence Johnston a.k.a Lairdriver has been hard at work hitting dance floors with his diverse approach to DJ’ing. Focusing on quality of the Sound rather then the genre, blending unique sounds is one of his specialties. His immersion in the World of all things Music began at 4 years of age as Piano being his instrument of choice. From there he has developed musical compositions as diverse as his tastes. His DJ and Production style is an amalgam of House, Electro and Techno where he uses appealing elements of various genres in one track. In the 10 years he has been Djing Live, he has played nearly the full range of genres live. In his earlier years starting with Hardhouse, Trance and Techno, and later moving on to House, Electro and Tech-House keeping inspired by changing with the times and recognizing when to do so. Defining his skills on the classic Technics 1200’s, it is important to note that he has the bedrock skills of a traditional DJ.
During the past 8 years Lair Driver has played for a long list of some of Toronto's most popular Rave/Warehouse production companies, including 2 appearances at the World Electronic Music Festival hosted by Destiny Productions. In 2001 he played for Phlux Productions for their Hardhouse Themed stage, where headliners Alex Peace and Bam Bam played. In 2005 he played for the Hardsounds stage Hosted at the official Hardsounds stage where the likes of Sam Punk and Thomas Krome headlined.
He built his reputation on not just being a local area DJ; he began to establish followings in the various City scenes here and not just Toronto... He has played in London, Kitchener, St Catharines, Niagara Falls, Pickering, Ajax, Oshawa, Sudbury and North Bay – feeding off the differing energies in the crowds abroad... He has made appearances in the US. Playing in Rochester, New York, Buffalo New York, Chicago, Minnesota and Pittsburgh. He has had the honor of being on the same bill with some of Canada’s best and well-respected DJ’s such as Czech, Jelo, Dekoze, Dr Trance, Kamikaze, and the Beatfreakers and U.K Techno Titans Producer/DJ’s such as D.A.V.E the Drummer, Chris Liberator, NRG Queen Madam Zu, and Hardstyle pioneers The Uberdruck Boys. In Toronto he has played at events hosted in many of the most popular clubs like System Sound Bar, Comfort Zone, Limelight, Jet, Xit Nightclub, Funhaus, The Drake and El Macambo.
In 2005 he started writing his own Music and at the time he began composing House and Techno tracks. One day he ‘accidentally’ fell upon the popular Downtempo and Chillout sound after a computer glitch caused his resident DAW sequencer to play his tracks at half speed. He was hooked and since then he has taken a unique multi-genre approach that although poses greater challengers, it also serves as a cornerstone of inspiration as he is never stuck to one sound. A more popular and phenomenal example of this approach would be of Canadian DJ/Producer Deadmau5 who built his well deserved reputation on his extremely diverse approach genre wise, creating everything from slamming House and Electro to Hip Hop and Chillout Beats. For Lairdriver diversity is everything and is essential to his approach.
His Production approach is a combination of MIDI Keyboards and DAW Sequencers Ableton Live 8, Fruity Loops Producer 8 and Reason 4 Rewired together. His Live show is combination of traditional Technics 1200 turntables and digital vinyl software Serato. A major element of his planned Live performance will be live Keyboarding and reworking of his material via Ableton Live. Preferring to break the mould and add his own influence. He has committed himself to a multi genre approach of Techno, House and Trance. Focusing on fusing popular sounds with his own vision.
Like many Producers, he has plans and aspirations to take his Performance world-wide and concentrate on the bigger picture. He has been actively giving his Music away for over 3 years and is eager to continue to provide his promotional work to other DJ’s and Producers with the plans to start his own label entitled Project-Hookfarm. Concentrating on promoting Local area talent and focusing on Producers who are actively engaged in more the one major genre and next generation talent. Until then he will continue his focus on free Music until he fulfils his goal of being picked up by a Record Label.
His yet to be titled Fall 2009 album is a blend of House, Electro, Techno and Trance reflecting his signature sound of hard driving beats that can bridge any atmosphere.
Back with two decked out tunes, Alchemy puts his thinking cap on and really does a number on 'Bits & Pieces'. Keeping a chuggy back-and-forth rhythmic house groove and working in vocal bits keeps the groove in your pants. For the big room, 'Resin8''s ripping synth lick drips your sweat off your face, until the break where lasting filtered build up calms the dance floor.

redford had something that he diden't want me to tell enyone.Did you know that most females are not telling the truth when it comes to a guys package,i can tell you this from an experience that i had.but now that redford is such a player with all the females,an has no time for his so called best friend i will tell you how he did it.He went from having a tiny thing and in a couple months his tiny thing is like nine inches and get this, it is still getting bigger. He has been taking secretly these white things from CABHE.COM I found out when i was at his pad and he was in the john, I went in his room sneeked under his bed and booya there was like six full packs and five empty ones all from CABHE.COM I was laughing at first but then when he came in the room and caught me looking at them, he freaked out and made me sware to not ever tell anyone about them, especially females from school or work that he has been dating for the past while, now that I think of it, he has been rather busy with all the popular females around here, when just last year he was the shyest when it came to females.
I just never put two and two together until he explained it all to me, I did see his johnson and yes, it is huge, monster huge, the thickest and longest one I ever seen.
I know this sounds really shallow, but I am considering ordering 6 packs from the website at CABHE.COM for you know who.. he does not have a web page, so he is not gonna see this. They guarentee that the packs will work on any man, or they give you your money back, living proof that they do work on any guy, seeing is proof.CABHE.COM
