HOWEVER - the facts prove this: Lakesha Shontell Woods, arrived here May 6 and she is the oldest of two children. She was raised in a small town in Hollywood, Florida called Carver Ranches and at the age of 10 she started singing with an all girl gospel group called Cousin's Touch.
The group consisted of 5 girls all 1st cousins. Lakesha says, "We were just a group of girls who wanted to sing like our daddies The Woods aka The Hollywood Stars". Growing up in the church they weren't allowed to pursue singing as an R&B group so they sang gospel as much as they could - in their church choir and at other church programs. She wrote the groups' first original song "Seek God". As the young ladies grew up each member began to move on to pursue personal ambitions or to start families. In the late 90's Lakesha left the group and went on to further her education at Miami Dade College.
With musical talent running as deep as 3 generations back, Lakesha has always had a desire to pursue a career as a Singer & Songwriter but she would often feel intimated by the fear of public acceptance. "... I was a teen parent so the fear of doing something that wasn't practical almost made me give up on my dreams. It was a struggle to finish high school, it was a struggle going to college, it was a struggle to become a professional in the corporate world but it was a practical decision and being a mother I just wanted to do right by my children. But, the call to use my God given talents just happen to be stronger than the logic behind the common choices".
Eventually, she challenged herself to face her calling. Lakesha left the corporate world to pursue her dreams of becoming a full time entertainer and she's working deligently to create a Brand that the world will never forget! She's the CEO of Ebonie Flare Entertainment, LLC which is a company named after her daughter. The company consist of a booking agency, modeling agency & cosmetics company: Ebonie Flare Models & Ebonie Flare Cosmetics. EFE is also the sister company to Slogans Communications & Enjoy Life Magazine.
With writing being her strong point, she writes about things that are common; everyday issues in her life. Through Enjoy Life Magazine, Lakesha writes the Editorial column Mind Body & Soul. She's written several poems, essays and commentaries that have been published in literary magazines, online publications and in compilations with other authors. Some of her well noted articles include: All My Good Days, Everybody Needs a Break, Nature's Way, I Write & the poem What About My Heart which she was awarded the Editor's Choice award from Poetry.com in 2004.
As an Actress Lakesha received her start with TH Entertainment an independent entertainment company that produces films. In 2004 she was casted as Malinda in the independent film Root of Evil. With TH Entertainment she was also casted for the pilot sitcom Soul City, this show aired on Comcast Cable in 2005.
Presently Lakesha is writing songs for up and coming artists, collaborating with other songwriters and circuiting venues performing original songs and spoken word. Her first musical play "Don't Stop the Music" will be produced in 2009 by GKR Music Mission, a non- profit production company. The musical will be on the marquee at the Emma Parish Theater (Titusville Playhouse). Lakesha is busy laying the foundation for her family and aspiring to be a constant motivation to women and men by helping them realize that their potential should be energized and maximized!
