COSAS EP available from www.alphabetset.net:
"Lakker bring a dark melodic angular rhymical monster to bear 'pon this release, with the assurance that not one Amen break even got a sniff of what they were up to while buried away creating this beast of ultimately beautiful horror... harrowing church bells, worshipping at the heels of rave; chambers that resonate with classical music during the day are overrun, twisted and turned over to the darkside by night.. "Ever watch a 60’s movie set in the future? The kind where the sets are stark white with oddly shaped chairs in bright colors that don’t look the least bit comfortable, where the cars fly but are roughly the size of pontoons, where people get their meals by speaking into little boxes and out pops a plate with a small, unnaturally colored cube on it? Yes, it all looks futuristic and ultra-modern but it still, without a doubt, is stamped with the impression of an era long past – and it’s still really cool.
BLÆRG’s latest release, a 3" CD by the name of “Auspices and Vagaries” is the perfect score to a meal of Soylent Orange or for a drink at the milk bar. It stirs together bits of futuristic rhythms, strains of jazzy flavor and a splash of retro flair into a wonderful little breakcore appetizer that leaves the palate whetted and the appetite craving more.
This 3" CD-R is hand printed and assembled, and comes with an “Auspices and Vagaries” vinyl sticker. This album is strictly limited to 50 copies. Album can also be downloaded for free in 128kbps MP3 format. This could be the last BLÆRG album for a long time. "
Koen Park is the work of Ian D Hawgood. Working between his small apartment in Tokyo and his mum's garage in south London, he makes washed out electro-hip-hop-pop-folk-shoegaze music. Pastoral Pioneer was made with circuit bent casios, drums, piano, field recordings, melodica, harmonium, warbly old tape recorders and musical smarts. The results are both unique and wonderful.
Also released today is 'Everything In Shadow', a Koen Park CD release on Experimedia Recordings. It's kind of a sister release to this, as Ian used similar gear. Both releases are super melodic.
The debut album from Red Box Recorder makes a statement of intent. Setting his sights on nothing less than world domination and political hegemony, this London-based producer uses the medium of wonky electronica to indoctrinate the masses. Ranging from ravetastic workouts to meditative soundscapes, and embracing everything in between, this is music designed to surprise, delight and induce total brain meltdown – for free!
The emphasis here is not on technical wizardry but composition - a considered attempt to create something new out of the familiar components of techno, dubstep, live instrumentation and, er, a touch of classical. Whether it works or not is for listeners to decide, but rest assured that this album makes an exciting new contribution to the body of music we politely call “underground”.
