GeneralThe Red Fox clothing line is not recycled or reconstructed but it still is a waste not want it all, kind of clothing line. It is unique, and almost all one of a kind, in the way I use the textiles my mom made or collected over many years but never used. And my mom was known for her textiles. Super cozy and rich knit jacquards. Luxurious bamboo, tencel, organic cotton, hand loomed silks, old french milled lace, and other ridiculously gorgeous fabrics. Note for the young ones, yes they were making these "eco-friendly" fabrics back in the 80's and unlike today, they weren't made in sweat shops over seas. Keep an eye on this sight because I will be posting photos of my entire spring collection in February. This is a very casual letter I wrote to my friend when she asked me what and why. I decided to include it. Although it's far from eloquent or artistically inspired, I felt it was a very honest portrayal of my intentions, ok wendy. the real purpose behind the shop is simple. it's based on the fact that the very fundamental laws that run way we choose to govern ourselves are in contradiction to life's laws or at least in relationship to the rest of life on earth. our government is called capitalism and is nothing new as far as the sense of hierarchy is concerned. sprung from the whole idea that the earth was made as mans garden to rule as he like. Nobody should have ownership over anything else, because the truth is, nobody does. we're one big family that needs each other to live. capitalism looks like a pyramid. like on a dollar bill. there's this idea that a few in society are on the top and the wealth trickles down to the bottom. at the bottom lay the majority. the most common, like ants, fish, water, land and the bacteria in it... then come the people that live closest in communion with land then other people and then other people... etc... well of corse, thats all non sense and the pyramid is really flipped on its head as far as the rest of life is concerned. the one with the most power is the thing most common, the big old mama earth and the universe in which it spins. we are completely at the mercy of it's movements and totally dependent upon it. To divide it up and say we own bits and pieces and everything and any one on it is disrespectful and self destructive. I believe everyone, in what ever business they're in needs to change the way they do it and fast. I don't believe running away to the amazon or with mountain fellows is the answer. Just be putting more burden on that mountain and putting yourself closer to the endangered species list with the rest of the pyramid. Anyway, the land that needs the most tending and care is city land. So my plan is to start to try to create bridges. Alternative communities if you will, that include and work with the existing one. Slowly shifting thoughts, world views and our actions from one book of laws to another. I grew up in the family trade of making art and clothes and fashion. Which are all ancient arts but under current government, have become an enormous harm like most all industries. so, even though i wasn't planing on going to business in this field, it is the only one i know well enough to start on my own using a different set of rules. though I'm not squatting land, yet, and i need to pay bills, it is a platform for a bridge to begin. I want it to eventually be a shared closet where every one can participate and have the closet of there dreams. where new things are being created all the time and many people get to use them. when i was living with different tribal folk growing up, i saw objects, like a drum, or a hat, heal people. really heal them like medicine... and the only thing i could reason was the amount of attention and care so many people gave to these items. I look around my room and I realize I don't have the time, and have too much stuff for them to be medicine. A lot of it, I'm sure, is actually unhealthy. So I thought, for clothing at least, and maybe some art (mine anyway), I could move my closet and other peoples into one shared venue. how the store works, if some one is bored with their day to day costumes, and wants a new outfit or two, instead of buying a bit here and there, you get one thing, wear that, bring it back, and for the next month, get dressed at the shop. have access to a whole new wardrobe for a month and at the end of the 30 days you only have to keep one, or none. Sounds a little nutty but that's that in a nut shell
