La Mano Fria has DJ'd/performed throughout the world, most noted was at Sonic Acts 2001 (Amsterdam), Transmediale.02 (Berlin), Sonar 2004 (Barcelona) and many more. Most recently, La Mano Fria's performance has gone into a VJ performance that mixes text from the audience, a projector, computer and markers. Once the audience fill La Mano Fria's notebook with their message, he inputs everything into the computer and live on the projector begins to deconstruct and then create new designs from the audience's original text. Then finishing the design by hand on the screen which is a giant sheet of paper. The final result is a unique and experimental typographical live visual performance, while other AIO musicians and DJ fill the club with sound.
La Mano Fria is a graphic designer, artist, record label owner, DJ, audio hacker, live graphic performer, clothing brand owner, typographer but most important a simple worker.
Son of Colombian and Costa Rican immigrants that fled their country to settle in the urban jungles of NYC in the late 60's, he was born in the 1970's in a mainly South American area of Queens in NYC, then later to migrate to South Florida.
La Mano Fria likes: talking, type, cumbia, fonts, language, photo copy machines, bodegas, lettering, cooking, duct tape (called gum tape in Japan), immigrants, ink, roots reggae, latin protest music, learning, culture, hip hop, infiltrating, paint, house music, old punk rock record jackets, Cuban OSPAAAL posters, pirate radio, wheat paste, quiet walks in the jungle, writing on things, box cutters, techno, stencils, disgruntled artists, printers, electro, beer (ale: stouts, porters abbeys, Trappist, quadrupels, dubbels...) markers, silk screening, cameras, records, spray paint, ocean, beats...

Rice and Beansは、グラフィクデザイナーであり、社会活動家、タイポグラファーであるLa Mano Friaとマイアミを拠点とするBeta Bodega Coalitionのオフィシャルブランドです。それは、1996年、NYCにあったBobbito Garciaの伝説のショップ"Footwork"から販売をスタートしました。La Mano Friaは1999年に自身の音楽レーベルを設立し、所属アーティストに加え、Prefuse73、Common、Raekwon、Pharoah Monche、The Last Poets、Dead Prez、DJ 3000などのCDや12"シングル、ロゴやT-Shirtsのデザインを手掛けました。また、日本ではStudio Voice誌の表紙へのグラフィック提供や、Tokion、Fader、remix、Woofin'など各誌でインタビュー等の特集を組まれ、バルセロナ Sonar2004、またコロンビアMedelink2008への出演、2005年ポルトガルAuditorio Serralves、2004年オランダTag Gallery、2005年から2008年まで東京UPLINK GalleryでArt Exhibitionを行っています。

Yo La Mano Friaasaurus. I just found out that we're related...and as a special family only present we've made a new song for you called "End of Days" (start doing backflips now). It's an epic instrumental opus to the moment when our ancient Dino relatives saw a large fiery object plummeting towards them.
