.. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. .. ......for booking info: please email lol.like.animals@gmail.com ...."Just like the actual Prairie State, the band Land of Lincoln navigates asymmetrical terrain, stylistically stumbling from urban cool into more scenic country." — TimeOut (Chicago)......"This Chicago five man band plays a super-charged set." — Daily Candy (Chicago)......"This Rocks!"-Rocktober Magazine ...."Land of Lincoln lay claim to a diverse array of influences, "from banging on a rock with a bone ... to a plugged in super computer," you read on the band's MySpace site (myspace.com/landoflincolnmusic). The crew landed a prime gig opening for psych-rock legend Roky Erickson at Bottom Lounge this weekend, and its off-kilter brew should be the perfect precursor to Erickson's tormented, wolverine howl. "Gentlemen Pete," for one, sounds hand-crafted, the quartet rumbling through the primal, junkyard cut like a group of sonic alchemists. "I'm Your Man" slows things up, opening with a measured drumbeat before blossoming amid hazy guitars and something that sounds like the distant chime of church bells. Best of all might be "Phasers," a foot-stomping bit of rock 'n' roll built around a repetitive, buzz-saw riff. "We were young/On the run," the crew sings. "Phasers on." -Andy Downing, Chicago Tribune

  • Influences

Mostly artists on labels like Touch and Go, SST, 4AD, Matador, and the like. We played with Roky Erickson on Halloween, and that was the shit. We also have deep respect for Tom Waits, Lou Reed, Robyn Hitchcock, Fugazi, Brian Eno, PJ Harvey, Nick Cave, David Bowie, and, of course, the Beatles. We've done plenty of drugs in our lifetime and listened to a lot of classic, punk, and indie rock. The Tribune said that we're primal and junkyard which we liked a lot. We've got a softer, more sensitive side, but try to keep that on the down low. Voted most likely to make off-color jokes at your funeral.
