La Langoustine est Morte was established in July 2006 by poets Anthony Joseph & Sascha Akhtar as a series of evenings celebrating experimentation and innovation in poetics and fiction. The inaugural event was held at the Poetry Cafe in London on July 31 2006 and featured readings by Jamika Ajalon, Sascha Akhtar, Carolina Diaz, Anthony Joseph & Ronnie McGrath.
One aspect of the first evening was engaging the well-wishers who had come out in a game of Exquisite Corpse. (We have scanned these pieces, please enjoy. Included in My Pictures is one that Sascha Akhtar and Nofil Naqvi did just before the event, in anticipation...please feel free to use the My comments to start one yourself) Perhaps in the fourth we shall do this again

Limited edition booklets featuring works by all writers who have appeared are also available, email for details.

Hi Guys (or lobsters). Forthcoming Sundays at the Otos:

SUNDAYS AT THE OTO

“poetry and music with the post-avant crowd for your Sunday afternoon pleasure”

Third Sunday of the month, 3-5 pm, Café Oto, 18-22 Ashwin Street, Dalston, London E8 3DL £4 entry.

February 15: Sarah Jacobs with Imogen Smith & Alex Walker + Richard Makin (art & language)
+ Dawn Scarfe & Mel Gough (music)

Art, language & music coming together. Sarah Jacobs is a sculptor making objects, performance, installation, books on paper, and books in electronic form.
Her electronic piece Deciphering Human Chromosome 16: We Report Here uses text in a visual way to document the ethical, economic, political and philosophical polemics associated with mapping the human genome, and their changes through time. Richard Makin is a writer of fiction and poetry and a visual artist.
Experience his language as a complex and haunting landscape to drift across.
Carillon is an experimental sound performance by artists Dawn Scarfe and Mel Gough. Guitars are tuned to resonant nodes in cymbals to produce a rich bell-like sound. The aim is to investigate accents and textures within the spectrum of resonant sound in immersive and meditative live exploration. Expect from this afternoon completely new stances on language, music and performance!

March 15: Paul Taylor's Trombone Poetry + Uru-Ana + Mike Weller

April 19: Abi Oborne + Holly Pester + James Wilkes

A poem for your day:
.
.
My Friend

I look at you my Friend and I see a child at play
frolicking in muddy streams, splashing rivers into
oceans and carrying each molecule gently
to the sky for another round like a child handing water to his Father
for the first time.

You are neither boastful nor meek.
You are not shy nor are you seeking attention
There is simply abundance and grace with you my Friend
and you ask nothing of me...save I am my self...fully...always... and
you ask without asking...lead without
leading...cause...effortlessly.

My Friend, it is simple with You.
