The band is influenced by a wide range of bands and musical styles, from Thrash, Metal, Electronica dnb, Pop and Industrial. With members from a wide variety of successful bands and a lot of experience.
INSTRUMENTS AND SOUNDS
The guitars used in this band are mainly Ibanez guitars tuned to drop C, however the main core rhythm tone is a Steinberger 12 string (strung as a 6). The bass is all standard 5 and six string tuning BEADGC. A variety of fx are used by the band including Digitech WAMMY-WAH and BNX-3, a BOSS GT-10 and an assortment of Boss stomp boxes. Amps used are Mesa Boogie (rhythm tones) and Line6 for the leads, the bass amp is a vintage Trace Elliot running a Yorkeville sub. The synths are mainly driven by the SID chip and its emulator QuadraSID, which play a major role in the retro keyboard tone of the band, the Virus Polar is also used, but as the sound has progressed through the writing stages the C64 tone seems to fit more for the sound we are after.
Combining explosive energy, infectious hook lines and dark progressive riffs. Lanstrum are a 6-piece band from Melbourne Australia who are pushing the boundaries of the modern heavy spectrum. The band is made up of vocalist Joey Biro and bassplayer Drew Dedman formerly of Australian heavyweights Superheist, with Rob Farnham (ex-Nana-Zhami, Lunchcutter) and Ash Mannerheim providing the dual guitar attack. John Chamberlain on keyboards & samples and Rob Brens from Alarum enlisted as new drummer in September 2009. The bands sound consists of influences from hardcore to metal, electronic to mainstream rock, they are currently recording their debut album set for release early 2010. Stay tuned . . . . . . .

Cheers for accepting. Both Liza (End of Aeon vox) and I were very impressed. She, sadly, missed half the set warming up - but I know she was enjoying what she heard, AS DID I!
Hey hey Joey, I told you at Ruby's to look out for the Ging and here I am.. To all you boys at Lanstrum, congrats on what I can only see as being a successfull launch of a great new innovative band. One which has plenty of depth in style, creativity and presence... Joey you are a credit to yourself and where you have come from. Am so happy you have found your voice in Lanstrum coz it would have been waisted talent unused.. Look forward to catchin another gig soon, keep up the hard work all.

THE RUBYS FIRST BIRTHDAY EXTRAVAGANZA - 3 MORE SLEEPS
One year ago, on a lonely Wednesday evening at a forgettable Collingwood pub, The Rubys played their first gig. Twelve months on, the three scrappy-looking lads have under their belts better songs, more gigs and are infecting Melbourne audiences with catchy, raw, stomp rock n roll pretty much weekly. So to mark the milestone of reaching the ripe old age of one, The Rubys are celebrating with a birthday party! With around 40 gigs down over the previous year and a wildly raucous live set, there has been a lot of jumping around and beer consumed so this Friday at the Old Bar will be no exception. Expect some wild blues-driven sets by The Volatiles and The Bellows to warm things up, and the boy’s favourite two-piece The Cheats bringing it all home. 8:30 start, $8, Party hats provided.
Hope to see you down there and we can all rock out!!
