Lantana is a rocking country trio of women from Dallas Texas. Their performances all over the U.S. have earned them accolades such as "the Top 10 Concerts of '06" as well as "Top 10 CDs of '06" by the Dallas Morning News. Performing in venues including the Houston Astrodome, Louisiana Superdome, Texas Stadium, Texas State Fair and Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon has lead to a dynamic show including the soaring harmonies they are known for. “Since Lantana is made up of three women playing country influenced music comparisons to the Dixie Chicks may be inevitable. This trio has their own distinct sound; however, with a bluesy soul in the Bonnie Raitt direction. Their harmonies are lush, sweet and poignant, augmenting the honest lyrics. A fresh force to watch out for” – Mark E Waterbury, Music Morsels
Their first two singles landed them in the top 10 on the Texas Music Chart twice, a feat only superseded by one female trio prior to them: the Dixie Chicks. With an unbridled passion for country music it is their sole purpose to bring to the world stage a quality of music that is both traditional in its roots but progressive in its sound. Chock full of content that is relevant to fans who are well past their teens, the group delivers high energy signed with a sense of humor, of course.
"The one thing we are sure of is Lantana really is a force of its own," says Biz Haddock, founder of the group, "twist after turn things have unfolded organically to where we are today and the irony of it all is now we really see that all of these things have happened for a reason. Our current group feels the best yet. It's really natural." Biz Haddock and Lisa Underwood began singing together six years ago when they appeared, unbeknownst to them, on the jumbo-tron in their church. They were having such a great time in the choir it was even evident to the cameraman. That synergy soon developed into much more. "Sweet Lantana" emerged and was performing the National Anthem all around Texas. They sang with several third members over the years, but the current combination with Dalene Richelle gelled beautifully.
A native of Dallas, Haddock formed Lantana as an outlet for her musical dream. After two albums and hundreds of shows, this mother of two will tell you the music never waivers and only continues to find its way into the depths of your soul, sleep and coffee for that matter. "I rely heavily on my faith and my husband's solid support. This business is peppered with all kinds of insanity and without a life line it's easy to sink. Country music is inspiring and thought provoking and that is what I want Lantana to reflect."
Richelle stepped in when Underwood left the group in '03. "It wasn't easy coming in after Lisa's legendary talent. I'm so grateful to now get to perform with her instead of trying to fill her shoes," Richelle laughs," the three of us have so much fun writing and performing." Richelle, a native Albertan is playfully deemed the "Texanadian" of the group. Richelle left a career as an Art and Music teacher to pursue her musical aspirations. " I loved teaching but there was something that kept calling me to perform....it called me all the way down to Texas!" Richelle started playing the piano at age 4 and now plays slap bass and mandolin too.
Another Dallas native, Underwood started early on the piano as well. As a mother of three plus two more through her recent marriage, she arranges music in her sleep and often has the whole family singing in polyphonic harmony. Deemed a "Glam-ma" by her peers, since she didn't fit the stereotype when she recently became a grandmother, Lisa loves to write and perform and couldn't keep away from Lantana. "We have so much we want to share through our music," Underwood says, “that is really what it's all about."
The group is gearing up for another album and performing in and around Texas primarily. They have joined forces with several charities and that is high on the list for goals this year as well. "The ladies of Lantana are as gorgeous as the flower they’ve taken their name from; A flower that also happens to be known for its hardiness and resilience. “Their sound is fun and vibrant, says” – Heidi Wilson KRYS FM in Corpus Christi TX.
