LaNuit Theater & The Comedy Conservatory's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | The Comedy Conservatory opened in 2003 in the heart of New Orleans. Yvonne Landry moved back to her home town after a 15 year stint of improv education across the country. She studied at IO in Chicago with Del, the Annoyance and Second City. When she came back to New Orleans she saw a budding comedy scene yet only short form improv. Her goal: to form a group that would soon become a school that would soon become a theater. That group was Gods Been Drinking, the school was the Comedy Conservatory, and the theater was La Nuit (Neworleans Underground Improv Theater). By 2005 the school was growing faster than ever imagined with two teams performing every week (GBD and Cold Towne Heroes) at a local theater hot spot (Le Chat Noir) and a packed 5-level program with classes running every day of the week. Yet things came to a screeching halt in August of that year as a hurricane swept through and changed all of their lives forever. The theater was devastated as the student population vanished and the actual school was destroyed by water damage. A small group of improvisers stayed around to pick up the pieces. They soon found that it was indeed the improv and comedy in their lives that helped them keep going. With the help of old friends like James Grace, Bill Chott, Andre Washington, Brian Palermo, the whole Comedy Sportz family and countless others, hope was instilled. Since the storm, La Nuit Comedy Theater has been born, opening in November of 2006 at the previous site of the Comedy Conservatory. The opening was celebrated with "The Second 2nd Annual New Orleans Improv Festival" since they missed their original second annual festival. Teams from all over came to enjoy the brand new theater, the smiling faces of New Orleans and the spirit that will never leave this great city. Since then, the theater has been running Thursday through Saturday, putting smiles on the faces of people that come in haggard and tired from rebuilding a city in whatever way they can. La Nuit is gearing up for the "Third Annual New Orleans Improv Festival" as well as the one year anniversary of the rebuilt La Nuit Comedy Theater.
