A TZIGANO-COPPERED BRASS BAND
Brass band but not just that, La Panika is the fruit of one thousand meetings, one thousand tumults, one thousand madnesses, one thousand events... Benito BLANCQUAERT, leader and amazing saxophonist of the formation, meets in 1996 Arnaud VAN LANCKER (Nono), artistic director and founder of the Compagnie du Tire-Laine (From Lille / France).
The projects fuse. He plays in " Sergan Le Rom " then with the musicians of the Taraf Borzo, notably together with Jean-Pierre LIETAR, highly skilled trumpeter with whom he dashes into an unforgettable tour during which he crosses the Grand Bulgarian Master clarinettist Yvo PAPASOV and Mladen MALAKOV.
In 2001, Benito discovers in the Ghent streets the accordionist Pesho ELMAZOV a rom of Bulgaria, and it is the « artistic love at first sight ». Meetings which sealed the fate of Panika, that of the Pesho ELMAZOV, Jean-Pierre LIETAR and Benito BLANCQUAERT is naturally a part of it. It is the beginning of a brotherly friendship. The soul of La PANIKA was born, a brass band " bulgaro-franco-belge ".
With main part", Vincent HOUZIAUX, Cyrille CATTEAU, Antoine MARÉCHAL (tubas), Gaspard VANARDOIS (banjoïste of Taraf Dékalé and guitarist of the Taraf Borzo) and Théophile DEMARCQ (percussionist of Swing Gadjé and Taraf Dékalé), Panika became an inescapable brass band of the gypsy musics of the Balkans, strongly influenced by the roms musics of the Black Sea. The group counts at the moment more than 300 wanderings and concerts, and so confirms its European dimension.
More recently, Apaz DEMIR SEVGILIM (clarinets) and Mitko CHAKAROV ( trumpet), two outstanding musicians, direct descendants of the lineage of musicians' big roms families which immortalize for centuries, generation after generation, their directory in the region of Shumen in Bulgaria, bring to La Panika this unique and incredibly gypsy breath!
Fanfare mais pas que, la Panika est le fruit de mille rencontres, mille tumultes, mille folies, mille peripeties... Benito BLANCQUAERT, chef de file et saxophoniste epoustouflant de la formation, rencontre en 1996 Arnaud VAN LANCKER (Nono), directeur artistique et fondateur de la Compagnie du Tire-laine (Lille).
Les projets fusent. Il joue dans « Sergan le Rom » puis avec les musiciens du Taraf Borzo, notamment en compagnie de Jean-Pierre LIETAR, trompettiste emerite avec qui il se lance dans une tournee inoubliable au cours de laquelle il croise le grand maitre clarinettiste bulgare Yvo PAPASOV et Mladen MALAKOV.
En 2001, Benito decouvre dans les rues de Gand l’accordeoniste Pesho ELMAZOV un rom de Bulgarie, et c’est le coup de foudre. Des rencontres qui ont scelle le destin de la Panika, celle de Pesho ELMAZOV, Jean-Pierre LIETAR et Benito BLANCQUAERT en fait bien evidemment partie. C’est le debut d’une amitie fraternelle. L’ame de la PANIKA est nee, une fanfare « bulgaro-franco-belge ».
Avec les « gros », Vincent HOUZIAUX, Cyrille CATTEAU, Antoine MARÉCHAL (tubas), Gaspard VANARDOIS (banjoïste du Taraf Dekale et guitariste du Taraf Borzo) et Theophile DEMARCQ (percussioniste de Swing Gadje et du Taraf Dekale), la Panika est devenue une fanfare incontournable des musiques tsiganes des Balkans, fortement influencee par les musiques roms de la mer Noire. Le groupe compte a present plus de 300 deambulations et concerts, et confirme ainsi sa dimension europeenne.
Plus recemment, Apaz DEMIR SEVGILIM (clarinette) et Mitko CHAKAROV (trompette), deux musiciens hors pair, descendants directs de la lignee des grandes familles de musiciens roms qui perpetuent depuis des siècles, generation apres generation, leur repertoire dans la region de Shumen en Bulgarie, apportent a la Panika ce souffle unique et incroyablement tsigane !
