Call and response girl-boy vocals underscore the magical innocence and hidden darkness of this New York trio. Since getting together in 2001, La Pieta has played indie venues in NYC, toured throughout the East Coast, released two albums on Contraphonic Records, and recorded a Split 7" with Brooklyn band Lungs of a Giant. La Pieta’s latest release, Inside Out, has been described as “heartfelt, harmonic, and guitar bright, but still in tune with the dark.” The band is gearing up for the release of its first full length album, Alone Together, scheduled to be released this Fall by Technical Echo Records.
Reviews of La Pieta's newest release, Inside Out...
**album available at www.nokarma.com and on iTunes**
Smart, warm, and achingly beautiful, Brooklyn trio La Pieta's Inside Out EP shows how craftsmanship and collaboration in songwriting and recording are supposed to work. There is refreshing innocence and honesty in the boy/girl vocal interplay that rings pitch perfect in its sweet simplicity. There is a little piece of heaven in each of these five songs, with melodies and dreamy imagery as easy to slip into as your coziest cashmere sweater. A closer look reveals unexpectedly complex song structures and even light brush strokes of studio wizardry. However, I'll be content to remain blissfully ignorant of anything that might distract me from the pure beauty of this music that stick to your ribs like mom's meatloaf. I will be listening to this EP for months.

A nice, sweet little five-song EP from Brooklyn's La Pieta touches your indie pop heart with simple but smart songs. Flitting from a slight Rainer Maria dynamic in the call and response vocals, but with lighter melodics…to a Throwing Muses type of heartbeat... Its heartfelt, harmonic, and guitar bright, but still in tune with the dark. Bring on an LP!

Stripped down indie pop. you'll get more than a good dose of boy/girl vocals, laid back drums, meandering twangy guitar riffin and clever lyrics from this cd. For some reason it gives me flashbacks to cake's "short skirt/long jacket" period, but i just can't put my finger on why exactly. This is quite enjoyable from start to finish, and anytime a band can do that it's a good thing.

If you liked Madder Rose, you will like La Pieta. Too short at only five songs, the EP's sound is that of a sweeter, higher-pitched Kim Deal singing slow indie pop over simple guitar and bass lines, complemented by subtle harmonies and counterpoint. The hooks will get you humming, the lyrics are wistful and lovely ("broken glass sparkles / stardust falling"), and I LOVE that the cover art refers to the "mustached man on the couch from the party last night."

This EP seemed pretty fabulous to me in the way that it walked a line between the guilty pleasure of reminiscence and the responsibility of not falling into that timewalk trap that would label them as also-rans. The music is a wistful blend of personable pop…Rachel's voice has this extremely clear and emotional quality but it isn't over the top like some other indie popsters. This is a really beautiful EP and highly recommended.

La Pieta create pure indie pop that contains a magical innocence and hidden darkness, cunning in its eerie beauty. Resplendent with call and response boy-girl vocals, pristine guitar licks reminiscent of the best of Unrest, wavering basslines that carry the melody and laid-back drumming, these songs weave a trail of absolute sun-soaked bliss and secret grins.
